Schneider earns high point
rider honors at event
NORTH SMITHFIELD, R.I.
(October 18, 2010) – The Stonehill College
equestrian team turned in its second third place finish in as many
weeks to open their fall season after taking third at the Wheaton
College show, hosted by Phoenix Rising Horse Farm, on Sunday.
Stonehill compiled 41 points to
finish behind Boston University and Tufts University, also for the
second-straight week, in the team competition. Senior co-captain Kayla
Schneider (Vernon, Conn./Rockville) was named high
point rider at the event after a ride off with a rider from BU
after placing first in open fences and flat. Senior Diana Cabral
(West Bridgewater, Mass./West Bridgewater) placed first in
her novice flat class to qualify for regionals next spring.
Sophomore Alexandra Fenner (Rye, N.H./Portsmouth)
rounded out the Skyhawks event winners with her first place showing
in her walk-trot class.
Strong second place finishes for
Stonehill came from sophomore Cassandra
Lorusso (Wrentham, Mass./Dana Hall School) in open
fences, junior Brianna Bach
(Windham, N.H./Salem) for novice fences and senior
Callie
Ryan (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) for
walk-trot-canter.
Stonehill has this weekend off
before returning to action with two events the final weekend in
October. The Skyhawks will participate in the Boston University
show at Holly Hill Show Stables, in Hanover, Mass., on Saturday,
October 30, before taking part in the Mount Ida show at River Wind
Farm, in Pembroke, Mass., on Sunday, October 31.
