Maxey and Berthiaume notch season highs in kills to pace Skyhawks
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (October 29, 2010) – The Stonehill College volleyball team claimed a 3-2 victory (18-25, 25-16, 25-19, 13-25, 15-8) over host Southern Connecticut State University in a Northeast-10 matchup Friday evening.
Freshman Sydney Maxey (Hutto, Texas/Hutto) put down a career-best 17 kills to lead the Stonehill offense, alongside 17 digs and a block assist, and senior Anna Berthiaume (Somersworth, N.H./Somersworth) racked up a .478 hitting percentage as she landed a season-high 14 kills, with two solo blocks and two block assists.
The Skyhawks also got double figures in kills from senior Erin Johnson (Centerville, Mass./Barnstable), who tallied ten, as well as 16 digs from senior Justine Thompson (Merrimack, N.H./Bishop Guertin) and 13 digs apiece from junior Laura Huselton (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) and sophomore Erin Kelly (Tinley Park, Ill./Marist). Senior Andrea Wirth (Mesa, Ariz./St. Mary's) handled primary setting duties for the Skyhawks, collecting 33 assists.
The Owls were paced by 14 kills from freshman Lauren McVey (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) and senior Broghan Miller (West Hartford, Conn./Hall), and sophomore Vanessa Sullivan (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) registered 29 digs. Sophomore setter Kimberly Lachowicz (Mansfield, Texas/Mansfield) posted 41 assists.
Stonehill (12-11, 8-3 NE-10) returns home tomorrow to host the University of New Haven at 1 p.m.
