Wielgoszinski is Skyhawks
first regional qualifier in walk-trot
HOLLISTON, Mass. (October
10, 2010) – The Stonehill College equestrian team
opened its fall season with a third-place finish at the Tufts
University home show, hosted by August Farm, on Saturday
afternoon.
Stonehill compiled 31 points to
finish behind Boston University and host Tufts in the team
competition. Senior Alicia Wielgoszinski (Amherst, Mass./Brewster
Academy) led the winners for the Skyhawks and is the
team's first regional qualifier with her victory in walk-trot
equitation. Senior Callie
Ryan (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) placed first in
walk-trot-canter equitation, while classmate Kate
Perez (Southampton, Mass./Hampshire Regional) was also
an event winner with her first place finish in novice flat
equitation. Junior Margeaux
DeVirgilio (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes)
rounded out the event winners for Stonehill in novice equitation
over fences, despite being a late substitute for an injured
teammate.
Junior Alexa
Riccio (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire) placed second for
intermediate equitation over fences, while sophomore Hanna Pattie
(Newburyport, Mass./Brewster Academy) took second place
for intermediate equitation on the flat.
Stonehill returns to action next
Sunday when it participates in the Wheaton College home show at
Phoenix Rising Horse Farm in North Smithfield, R.I., starting at 9
a.m.
