in win
EASTON, Mass. (October 9, 2010) – The
Stonehill College volleyball team notched their third Northeast-10
victory of the week on Saturday, sweeping Saint Michael’s
College 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-16) at home.
Senior Justine Thompson (Merrimack, N.H./Bishop
Guertin) anchored the Stonehill defense, amassing a
season-high 30 digs, and freshman Kirsten
Arvidson (Andover, Mass./Andover) notched a game-high
10 kills. Freshman Sydney Maxey
(Hutto, Texas/Hutto) added nine kills and 12 digs.
Saint Michael’s was led by seven kills from freshman
Chelsey Covitz (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) and 21 digs by
sophomore Courtney Dunne (Hopkinton, Mass./Bancroft School).
Arvidson posted five kills in the first set as Stonehill
jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the match. The second set was tied six
times early on, but the Skyhawks pulled away late behind five kills
from Huselton and four from senior
Erin Johnson
(Centerville, Mass./Barnstable), before Arvidson landed a
clutch kill to earn a sideout and she and Huselton put away the
final two points.
The Skyhawks found themselves in a 14-9 hole midway through the
third set, but put together a seven-point run to climb back to a
16-14 lead, and allowed the Purple Knights just two more points on
the way to a 25-16 final score.
Stonehill (8-7, 6-0 NE-10) next visits American International
College on October 12 at 7 p.m. Today’s match concludes this
weekend’s “Dig Pink” fundraiser to support breast
cancer research and treatment through the Side-Out Foundation. The
event raised a total of $325 during the weekend, and contributions
