Stonehill Cruises in
Bridgeport Sweep
Skyhawks run unbeaten
streak to five games with pair of five-inning wins
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (March
27, 2010) – Stonehill College extended its unbeaten
run to five games despite a 16-day layoff with a pair of
five-inning victories in sweeping a doubleheader at the University
of Bridgeport in non-conference softball action at Seaside Park
this afternoon. The Skyhawks shutout the Purple Knights 8-0 in game
one, before an 11-run fourth inning led to a 13-2 triumph in the
nightcap.
Sophomore Chelsea Stryker
(Baldwin, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) hit a combined 5-for-7
in the doubleheader for Stonehill with two runs scored and two RBI,
while junior Ashley Langlois (Ridgefield,
Conn./Ridgefield) was 3-for-5 with three runs scored, two
doubles, a stolen base and four RBI. Freshman Kelsey Wilcox
(Canterbury, Conn./Griswold) batted 4-for-7 with three
runs scored, a home run and four RBI. Classmate Nicole
Eisenmann (East Bridgewater, Mass./East Bridgewater) was
also 4-for-7, adding two runs scored, a double, home run and three
RBI.
Four Stonehill pitchers combined to
hold Bridgeport to just two earned runs over the ten innings played
this afternoon, striking out seven and walking none while
scattering six hits.

Sophomores Kaitlin Andrews
(Hudson, Mass./Hudson) and Kellie Reardon
(Burlington, Mass./Arlington Catholic) combined to toss a
three hit shutout and Ashley Langlois and Nicole Eisenmann paced
the offense, scoring four in the second and two runs each in the
fourth and fifth innings.
Andrews allowed two hits over the
first four innings, striking out four and walking none to earn the
win (1-1), while Reardon allowed just a hit in a scoreless fifth to
close out the win.
Eisenmann hit 2-for-3 with a home
run and two RBI, while Langlois was 2-for-3 with a double and three
RBI. Stryker batted 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored, while
Wilcox chipped in by going 1-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored
and two RBI. Eight of Stonehill's nine starters had at least
a hit in the five inning win.
Senior J.J. Edwards
(Georgetown, Ontario), junior Nicole Steiner
(Edison, N.J./Edison) and freshman Vanessa Lisseus
(Bridgeport, Conn./Central) all hit 1-for-2 for
Bridgeport. Steiner had the Purple Knights lone extra base hit in
either game with a double in fifth.
Stonehill scored all the runs it
would need with a four-run second. Langlois drove in the first run
with a single to center to score sophomore Lindsay Bock
(Amherst, N.H./Souhegan) who reached with a one-out single
to right. Stryker collected an RBI single before Wilcox smacked her
second home run of the season.
Stonehill added a pair in the
fourth with Eisenmann's first career home run, a two-run shot
with two outs. The Skyhawks closed the scoring with two more in the
fifth on a two-run double to left center from Langlois.

Stonehill closed out the commanding
doubleheader sweep with a 13-2 triumph in game two behind an 11-run
fourth.
Wilcox paced the Stonehill offense,
going 3-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI, while Stryker hit
3-for-4 with an RBI and run scored. Freshman Casey Remick
(Norton, Mass./Norton) batted 2-for-3 with a double, two
runs scored and two RBI, while classmate Kaitlin Miller
(Derry, N.H./Pinkerton) went 1-for-2 with a stolen base,
two runs scored and two RBI. Eisenmann chipped in with two more
hits, including a double.
Sophomore Samantha Krantz
(Hampton Bays, N.Y./Hampton Bays) picked up the win in the
circle for the Skyhawks, allowing an earned run on just a hit with
one strikeout over three innings. Reardon pitched another inning in
game two, allowing an earned run on two hits, before Eisenmann
closed the win out with a perfect fifth, striking out two of the
three batters he faced.
Sophomore Katie McMitchell
(Port Coquitlan, B.C./Terry Fox Secondary) and freshman
Alitha Krolikowski (Bristol, Conn./Eastern) both
hit 1-for-2 for Bridgeport with an RBI. Krolikowski suffered the
loss (0-8) in the circle, surrendering all 13 runs, only six
earned, on 14 hits with two strikeouts and three walks.
Stonehill struck first again with
two in the second. Junior Katy Abarr (Richmond, R.I./The
Prout School) led off with a single and later scored when
Miller reached on a fielder's choice. Langlois, who drew the
second of two-straight walks after the Abarr hit, scored on a wild
pitch with two out. Bridgeport got one of those runs back in the
bottom of the second when Krolikowski singled in Steiner who
reached after being hit by a Krantz pitch and stealing second.
Stonehill erupted with an 11-run
fourth, sending 16 batters to the plate and cranking out ten hits
in the frame. Stryker and Wilcox both had two RBI singles in the
inning, while Langlois had an RBI double and Bock a two-run double
in the frame.
Stonehill (5-3-1, 0-0 NE-10) is
right back in action tomorrow with a non-conference doubleheader at
Dowling College starting at noon. The Skyhawks will open their home
schedule on Tuesday with its Northeast-10 Conference opener against
the University of Massachusetts Lowell at 3 p.m. Bridgeport (0-16,
0-0 ECC) visits Bloomfield College on Monday at 3 p.m.
