Doubleheader at Assumption
Krantz pitches Skyhawks to
3-1 win in game one,
Greyhounds ride four-run fifth to 6-2 win in game two
WORCESTER, Mass. (April
11, 2010) – Stonehill College split a doubleheader
at Assumption College in Northeast-10 Conference softball action on
Sunday afternoon. The Skyhawks posted a 3-1 victory in game one,
while the Greyhounds rebounded with a 6-2 win in game two.
Sophomore Lindsay Bock
(Amherst, N.H./Souhegan) and freshman Courtney
Marchand (Raymond, N.H./Timberlane Regional) both hit a
combined 2-for-5 with a run scored to help pace Stonehill.
Freshman Lauren Medeiros
(Seekonk, Mass./Seekonk) led Assumption by hitting a
combined 3-for-6 with two doubles, a run scored and two RBI.
Freshman Brenna Morrissey (Salem, N.H./Salem) was
also 3-for-6 with a run scored.

Sophomore Samantha Krantz
(Hampton Bays, N.Y./Hampton Bays) turned in another strong
performance in the pitching circle to lead Stonehill to the game
one win. She earned the complete game win (5-4), allowing an earned
run on three hits with six strikeouts and two walks.
Stonehill pitching entered the game
having thrown 29-straight shutout innings with three-straight
shutouts. Krantz extended that streak to 34 innings before
surrendering a single run in the sixth.
Courtney Marchand led the Stonehill
offense, hitting 2-for-2 with a walk and run scored. Sophomore
Chelsea Stryker (Baldwin, N.Y./Kellenberg
Memorial) was 1-for-2 with an RBI and run scored, while
Lindsay Bock finished 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Senior Meghan DiVitto
(Milford, Mass./Milford) led Assumption, hitting 1-for-2
with a run scored, while Lauren Medeiros was 1-for-2 with a double.
Sophomore Jennifer Lowrey
(Assonet, Mass./Apponequet) took the loss (3-5), allowing
three runs, two earned, on six hits with five strikeouts and a walk
over seven innings.
Stonehill scored all three runs in
the third as Bock led off with a single and later scored on a
single to right by Stryker. Marchand, who singled, scored when
Wilcox reached on a fielder's choice, with Stryker coming in
on an error by the Assumption shortstop.
Assumption broke through, ending
Stonehill's scoreless innings streak, in the sixth as De
Vitto singled and later scored on a groundout by senior
Erin Murphy (Sarasota, Fla./Cardinal Mooney) after
getting into scoring position on Medeiros' double.

Lauren Medeiros was 2-for-4 with a
double, run scored and two RBI, while junior Amy Gordon
(Seekonk, Mass./Bishop Feehan) hit 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Junior Ashley Bilodeau (Manchester, Conn./East
Catholic) batted 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored
and an RBI. Senior Kara Lyons (Dracut,
Mass./Dracut) chipped in by hitting 2-for-3 with a double
and RBI.
Sophomore Casey Halajian
(Quincy, Mass./Archbishop Williams) earned the win (2-0)
for the Greyhounds, allowing two earned runs on four hits with
seven strikeouts and three walks in 5.1 innings. Classmate
Chelsea Durso (Salem, N.H./Salem) collected a save
(3rd) with 1.2 scoreless innings, working around four
hits and a walk with one strikeout.

(Norton, Mass./Norton) hit 3-for-3 with an RBI for
Stonehill. Classmate Nicole Eisenmann (East Bridgewater,
Mass./East Bridgewater) batted 2-for-3 with a double and
RBI, while junior Katy Abarr (Richmond, R.I./The Prout
School) finished 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Sophomore Kellie Reardon
(Burlington, Mass./Arlington Catholic) took the loss
(1-2), allowing an earned run on six hits with two strikeouts and a
walk in 3.2 innings.
Assumption opened the scoring with
a run in the fourth as Bilodeau led off with a single and later
scored on a double to center by Lyons with two out, chasing
Reardon. The Greyhounds broke the game open with a four-run fifth.
Medeiros followed up a leadoff double by DiVitto with an RBI single
to right. Bilodeau delivered an RBI double and then Gordon posted a
two-run single to right.
Stonehill got two runs back in the
sixth on RBI singles from Abarr and Remick, but Assumption closed
out the scoring with a run in the home half of the frame with an
RBI double by Medeiros.
Stonehill (12-10-1, 7-5 NE-10) is back in action on Tuesday when
it visits rival Bentley University for a doubleheader at 3 p.m. The
Skyhawks return home on Saturday when it hosts Southern Connecticut
State University for a doubleheader starting at noon. Assumption
(10-12, 4-6 NE-10) visits Pace University on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
