Stonehill College settled for
another doubleheader split with its decisions at Pace University in
Northeast-10 Conference softball action at Pace Field this
afternoon. The Skyhawks broke open a 7-1 win in game one late,
before the Setters rebounded for a 6-5 win in game two.
Sophomore Kaitlin Andrews
(Hudson, Mass./Hudson) didn't allow an earned run in
posting the win (3-3) in the circle for Stonehill in game one,
yielding just an unearned run on seven hits with three strikeouts
and a walk over 6.2 innings. Classmate Samantha Krantz
(Hampton Bays, N.Y./Hampton Bays) retired two of the three
batters she faced, striking out one, to close the game out.
Freshman Casey Remick
(Norton, Mass./Norton) paced Stonehill's 13-hit
attack in game one, batting 4-for-4 with a stolen base and three
runs scored. Senior Kristen Clark (Brockton,
Mass./Brockton) hit 2-for-3 with a run scored, while
junior Ashley Langlois (Ridgefield,
Conn./Ridgefield) finished 1-for-2 with a grand slam.
Freshman Nicole Eisenmann (East Bridgewater, Mass./East

run scored.
Freshman Kelly Fisher
(Castle Rock, Colo./Douglas County) took the loss (2-2),
allowing seven earned runs on 13 hits with seven strikeouts and
three walks over seven innings.
Stonehill opened the scoring with a
pair of runs in the second. Remick singled and sophomore
Lindsay Bock (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan) walked
before coming home on a two-run double to center by Marchand. Pace
got one of those runs back in the fourth when Calcagnini led off
with a single through the left side and later scored on a ground
out by senior Amanda Dague (Houston, Texas/Klein
Collins).
Stonehill regained its two-run lead
in the sixth when Remick led off with a single and later scored on
a pinch-hit single up the middle by sophomore Sarah Stumper
(St. James, N.Y./Smithtown East). The Skyhawks broke the
game open in the seventh as Clark and Remick sandwiched a walk by
freshman Lindsay Wilcox (Canterbury,
Conn./Griswold) to load the bases after the first two
batters of the inning were retired before Langlois belted her grand
slam.
In game two, Pace built a 5-1 lead
after two innings of play and held off a Stonehill rally to claim
the 6-5 win.
Sophomore Lauren Bell (New
Windsor, N.Y./Newburgh Free Academy) led Pace as she hit
3-for-3 with a double, home run, two runs scored and four RBI in

after she didn't record an out in the first inning, surrendering
three runs, two earned, on a hit and a walk. Krantz entered and
went the rest of the way, allowing three earned runs on five hits
with six strikeouts and two walks over six innings.
After Stonehill struck with a
single run in the top of the first on an RBI single by Stryker,
Pace erupted for four in the bottom of the frame. The Setters
loaded the bases with a single, error and walk, before Bell greeted
Krantz with a grand slam. Pace added a fifth run in the second with
a solo homer from Nelson.
Stonehill closed within 5-3 in the
fifth with a two-run single by Abarr. Pace got its final run in the
bottom of the frame with Shea collecting an RBI single. The
