EASTON, Mass. (April 5,
2010) – Stonehill College opened its home schedule
by splitting a doubleheader with the University of Massachusetts
Lowell in Northeast-10 Conference softball action at Fr. Gartland,
CSC, Field this afternoon. The Skyhawks rallied in the bottom of
the seventh inning for a 6-5 win in game one, before the River
Hawks rebounded with an 8-3 victory in game two.
Freshman Kelsey Wilcox
(Canterbury, Conn./Griswold) led Stonehill on the
afternoon as she hit a combined 5-for-7 with two runs scored, a
double, home run and two RBI. Senior Kristen Clark
(Brockton, Mass./Brockton) batted 3-for-5 with a pair of
walks and two RBI, driving in the game-winning run with two out and
the bases loaded to give the Skyhawks the walk off win in game one.
Freshman Alyssa Bryan
(Stoneham, Mass./Stoneham) was a perfect 5-for-5 at the
plate for UMass Lowell with a walk, three runs scored, two home
runs and three RBI over the two games. Sophomore Meagan Guy
(Berlin, Conn./Berlin) was a combined 3-for-5 with a walk,
two runs scored, a double, stolen base and two RBI.

Kristen Clark capped a Stonehill
rally from three runs down starting in the bottom of the sixth with
an infield single with two out and the bases loaded in the bottom
of the seventh to lift the Skyhawks to a 6-5 triumph in game one.
Clark finished 2-for-4 with two RBI
for Stonehill. Kelsey Wilcox was 3-for-4 with a double and run
scored, while sophomore Chelsea Stryker (Baldwin,
N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) batted 2-for-3 with two runs
scored. Junior Ashley Langlois (Ridgefield,
Conn./Ridgefield) hit 2-for-4 with an RBI, while sophomore
Sarah Stumper (Saint James, N.Y./Smithtown East)
chipped in with two hits, including a double.
Sophomore Samantha Krantz
(Hampton Bays, N.Y./Hampton Bays) earned the win (3-4)
with two scoreless innings of relief for Stonehill, allowing just a
hit and a walk with three strikeouts. Senior Kait Mendall
(Middleboro, Mass./Coyle & Cassidy) started for the
Skyhawks and yielded five runs, four earned, on five hits with a
strikeout and walk over five innings.
Alyssa Bryan hit 2-for-2 with a
walk, home run, RBI and two runs scored for UMass Lowell. She also
took the loss in the circle (5-8), surrendering six runs, four
earned, on 12 hits with two strikeouts and four walks in 6.2
innings.
Sophomore Elyssa Boris
(Gardner, Mass./Gardner) batted 1-for-3 with a home run,
two runs scored and two RBI, while Meagan Guy finished 1-for-2 with
a double, walk, stolen base and run scored.
Trailing 5-2, Stonehill's
rally actually started in the bottom of the sixth as it drew within
two runs on an RBI single down the leftfield line with one out from
Clark that scored junior Katy Abarr (Richmond, R.I./The
Prout School) from third, who reached with a leadoff walk
and got into scoring position on Stumper's double to left
center.
Stonehill got back-to-back singles
from Stryker and Wilcox with one out in the seventh. Freshman
Nicole Eisenmann (East Bridgewater, Mass./East
Bridgewater) pulled the Skyhawks within a run with an RBI
single down the right field line. Bryan was lifted after giving up
a single to Stumper that loaded the bases, but UML junior reliever
Rachel Shafler (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park) was
greeted by an RBI single to left by Langlois. The River Hawks
turned to Boris, who surrendered the game-winning single by Clark
that landed between the shortstop and third baseman with the
infielders caught in a rotation.
UMass Lowell opened the scoring in
the second when Boris followed a leadoff walk by Bryan with her
third home run of the season to right center. Stonehill knotted the
score in the third when Stumper reached on a fielding error by the
UML centerfielder that allowed Wilcox and Stryker to score.
UML regained the lead with two in
the fourth as Bryan belted her third homer of the year to dead
center with one out and senior Heather Ross (Waltham,
Mass./Waltham) added an RBI single down the right field
line with two out. The River Hawks added another in the fifth with
a sacrifice fly by senior Katelyn Hebert (Lowell,
Mass./Lowell).

Stonehill 3 (Game Two)

Alyssa Bryan paced a 13-hit attack
for UMass Lowell as the River Hawks opened an 8-2 lead and
didn't look back in posting an 8-3 win to earn the split in
game two.
Bryan was 3-for-3 with her second
home run of the afternoon and two RBI. Sophomore Lindsi
Panarelli (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) hit 3-for-4 with
a double, stolen base and run scored, while Meagan Guy finished
2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI. Freshman Krista
MacKenzie (Ipswich, Mass./Ipswich) chipped in by going
2-for-4 with a run scored and RBI.
Elyssa Boris picked up the win
(4-3) in the circle for the River Hawks, allowing three earned runs
on eight hits with four strikeouts and two walks in five-plus
innings. She was also 1-for-3 at the plate with two RBI and a run
scored.
Kelsey Wilcox again paced Stonehill
by hitting 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI. Freshman
Courtney Marchand (Danville, N.H./Timberlane) was
2-for-4 with a double and run scored, while Katy Abarr batted
1-for-3 with a home run.
Sophomore Kaitlin Andrews
(Hudson, Mass./Hudson) took the loss (1-2), allowing eight
runs, seven earned, on 11 hits with three strikeouts and a walk
over 4.1 innings.
UMass Lowell staked out a 4-0 lead
with a pair of runs in both the first and third innings. Boris
delivered a two-run single in the first, while Bryan smacked her
fourth home run of the season, a two-run shot, with one out in the
third.
Stonehill cut its deficit in half
with a pair in the bottom of the third. Marchand led off with a
double, before Wilcox belted her third home run of the season with
one out. UMass Lowell broke the game open with a run in the fourth
on an RBI single by MacKenzie, before scoring three in the fifth.
Stonehill rounded out the scoring
with Abarr's leadoff homer in the sixth.
Stonehill (7-9-1, 2-4 NE-10) is
back in action on Wednesday when it hosts Franklin Pierce
University for an NE-10 doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. UMass
Lowell (10-14, 3-3 NE-10) hosts Southern New Hampshire University
for a Conference doubleheader Wednesday starting at 3 p.m.
