EASTON, Mass. (April 8,
2010) – Stonehill College, ranked sixth in this
week's Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches
Association (IWLCA) Division II poll, wrapped a 10-0 run around
halftime in coasting to its sixth-straight win with a 20-7 victory
over Saint Anselm College in Northeast-10 Conference women's
lacrosse action at W.B. Mason Stadium tonight.
Sophomores Samantha Lynott
(Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem East) and Sarah Galligan
(West Newbury, Mass./Pentucket Regional) led Stonehill
with six points each. Lynott posted three goals and three assists
to go with four draw controls and a caused turnover, while Galligan
posted five goals and an assist to go with seven ground balls, a
draw control and five caused turnovers. Freshman Kayla
Green (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) netted a season-high
four goals, while senior Jackie Ladino (North Dartmouth,
Mass./Dartmouth) contributed three goals, nine draw
controls, four ground balls and a caused turnover. Freshman
Kelsey Reilly (Hingham, Mass./Notre Dame Academy)
chipped in with a goal and three assists for four points.
Sophomore Meghan Smith
(Pittsford, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) scored three of Saint
Anselm's seven goals on the night, with four other Hawks also
chipping in with markers.
Freshman Rebecca Moore
(Marlborough, Mass./St. Mark's School) finished with
four saves in goal for Stonehill, including three in the first
half. Junior Katherine O'Hara (Norwell,
Mass./Norwell) stopped 15 shots for Saint Anselm. The
Skyhawks finished with a 41-13 advantage in shots for the contest,
including a 35-11 edge in shots on goal. Stonehill forced 19 Saint
Anselm turnovers, while committing just eight.
Sophomore Sarah Galligan had another strong game with five
goals and an assist.

Stonehill wrapped a 10-0 run around
halftime that turned a 7-4 lead with 7:03 to play in the first half
into a 17-3 bulge with 17:12 to go in regulation. Four of
Galligan's five goals came in that stretch. The Skyhawks
closed out the first half with six-straight goals in the final 6:04
of the frame, two each from Galligan and Lynott. Stonehill scored
the first four goals of the second half – two from Galligan,
including her fifth of the game with 17:12 left in the contest to
cap the 10-0 run.
Saint Anselm struck first in the
contest as sophomore Shawna Walsh (Woburn,
Mass./Woburn) scored 4:56 into the contest. Stonehill
answered less than a minute later when Ladino netted her first of
the night with 24:19 to play in the frame. However, Saint Anselm
regained the lead with 20:34 left in the half with a free-position
goal by freshman Bryanna Hayes (Mansfield,
Mass./Mansfield). The Skyhawks took the lead for good with
four-straight goals in the span of 4:13 to tie the game an open a
5-2 lead. Freshman Heather Sullivan (Andover,
Mass./Andover) netted two of those goals, while Lynott had
a goal and assist during the stretch.
Stonehill (7-1, 5-1 NE-10) is back
in action on Saturday when it visits Franklin Pierce University for
a Conference matchup at 1 p.m. The Skyhawks return home next
Wednesday, April 4, to host Southern Connecticut State University
at 7 p.m. Saint Anselm (3-4, 1-3 NE-10) visits American
International College on Saturday at 4 p.m.
