#7 Stonehill Closes Out
Regular Season with Win
Skyhawks cruise to 21-3 win
at Saint Michael's behind second points from Lynott
COLCHESTER, Vt. (May 1,
2010) – Stonehill College, ranked seventh in this
week's Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA)
Division II poll, closed out the regular season with a 21-3 victory
over Saint Michael's College in Northeast-10 Conference women's
lacrosse action at Duffy Field this afternoon.
Sophomore Samantha
Lynott (Holbrook, N.Y./East Sachem) paced Stonehill
with five goals and two assists for seven points on the afternoon.
Freshmen Kayla Green
(Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) and Kelsey Reilly
(Hingham, Mass./Notre Dame Academy) each added three goals
and two assists, while junior Hannah Anderson
(Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) and freshman Heather
Sullivan (Andover, Mass./Andover) both contributed
three goals and an assist. Senior Jackie Ladino
(North Dartmouth, Mass./Dartmouth) and sophomore
Sarah
Galligan (West Newbury, Mass./Pentucket Regional) both
chipped in with a goal and three assists.

Freshman Rebecca Moore
(Marlborough, Mass./St. Mark's School) played the first
47:38 and made six saves in goal for Stonehill, while classmate
Caitlyn Taveira
(Mineola, N.Y./Mineola) posted two stops in just over 12
scoreless minutes to close the game out for the Skyhawks. Sophomore
Sandra Palumbo (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) finished
with ten saves in 41:54 for Saint Michael's.
Saint Michael's, which was shutout
by the Stonehill defense in the second half, got first half goals
from junior Elizabeth Siekman (Cheshire,
Conn./Cheshire), sophomore Spenser Wolfe (West
Newbury, Mass./The Governor's Academy) and freshman
Alee Ramos (Woodbridge, Conn./Hopkins School).
Stonehill started fast by opening a
7-0 lead within the first nine minutes of the contest. Lynott
posted three goals and an assist during the opening run, while
Sullivan scored twice and Green and Ladino each registered a goal
and assist. Ramos and Siekman scored back-to-back goals within a
34-second span for Saint Michael's to close within 7-2 with 15:56
left in the first half, but the Skyhawks reeled off a 6-0 run
before the Purple Knights scored with just two-seconds left before
the intermission for a 13-3 halftime lead. Lynott and Anderson both
scored twice for the Skyhawks in that time.
Stonehill out-scored the hosts 8-0
in the second half to pull away for good. Green and Reilly both
posted two goals and an assist in the second half for the
Skyhawks,
Stonehill (12-2, 10-1 NE-10) has
earned a first round bye into next weekend's NE-10 Tournament Final
Four which will be hosted by top-seeded and No. 1-ranked Adelphi
University next Saturday and Sunday. The Skyhawks await the winner
of Wednesday's first round matchup between sixth-seeded and
defending NE-10 Tournament champions University of New Haven and
third-seeded Merrimack College. Saint Michael's closes its season
out with a 3-11 record overall, 3-8 in NE-10 play.
