Postseason Ticket Despite Le Moyne Sweep
Dolphins win game one, 3-1,
before cruising to 12-1 win in six innings in game two
Skyhawks collect seventh seed in NE-10 Tournament, visit
sixth-seeded AIC Tuesday in first round game
EASTON, Mass. (May 2, 2010)
– Stonehill College clinched a spot in this week's
Northeast-10 Conference softball tournament despite suffering a
doubleheader sweep at the hands of Le Moyne College in NE-10 action
at Fr. William Gartland Field this afternoon. Le Moyne posted a 3-1
win in game one, before rolling to a 12-1 victory in six innings in
the nightcap.
Stonehill (20-18-1, 15-13 NE-10)
was able to clinch a spot in this week's Northeast-10 Tournament
with game one losses by Southern New Hampshire University and the
University of Massachusetts Lowell in their NE-10 doubleheaders
this afternoon. The Skyhawks will be the seventh-seed in the
tournament and will visit sixth-seeded American International
College (24-24, 17-13 NE-10) for a first round matchup on Tuesday
at 3 p.m. The winner will advance to the double-elimination
championship round, hosted by the University of New Haven, Friday
through Sunday.
Le Moyne (22-18, 20-10 NE-10) sewed
up the third seed with its wins today and has earned a spot in next
weekend's double-elimination round along with top-seeded and host
New Haven, second-seeded Southern Connecticut State University and
fourth-seeded Adelphi University.
Senior Bailey Phillips
(Rochester, N.Y./Greece-Arcadia) paced Le Moyne this
afternoon as she hit a combined 3-for-4 with a pair of walks, four
runs scored, a double, home run and three RBI. Sophomore
Kelcie Cashel (Lacona, N.Y./Sandy Creek) batted
3-for-5 with a walk, four runs scored, a double, home run and two
RBI, while senior Kelly Schweikert (Rochester,
N.Y./Spencerport) finished 4-for-7 with three runs scored,
a double and four RBI.
Junior Jenna Vanacore
(Hicksville, N.Y./Holy Trinity) pitched all 13 innings in
the circle for the Dolphins and picked up the win in both contests
(14-6), allowing just two earned runs on ten hits on the
afternoon.
Sophomore Chelsea
Stryker (Baldwin, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) led
Stonehill as she hit a combined 3-for-6 with two stolen bases, a
double and run scored. Junior Katy Abarr (Richmond,
R.I./The Prout School) batted 3-for-6 with an RBI and run
scored.
Le Moyne 3, Stonehill 1
– Game One
Jenna Vanacore held Stonehill to
just three hits and Le Moyne used a three-run third to key its 3-1
win in game one.

Vanacore collected her
13th win of the year by yielding just the one earned run
on three hits with two strikeouts and two walks over seven
innings.
Kelcie Cashel paced the Dolphins
offense, hitting 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI. Sophomore
Morgan Edmondson (Johnson City, N.Y./Johnson City)
batted 1-for-2 with a walk, stolen base and RBI. Kelly Schweikert
and junior Amanda Daum (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) both
finished 1-for-3 with a double and run scored.
Chelsea Stryker paced Stonehill by
going 2-for-3 with a pair of stolen bases and a run scored. Katy
Abarr hit 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Senior Kait Mendall
(Middleboro, Mass./Coyle & Cassidy) took the loss
(6-5), allowing three earned runs on six hits with three strikeouts
and two walks over seven innings.
Daum led off Le Moyne's three-run
third with a double to right before Cashel smacked her first home
run of the season with one out. Schweikert kept the inning going
with a two-out double and scored on a single to right by
Edmondson.
Stonehill got a run back in the
fourth as Stryker led off with a double to right and scored on a
single from Abarr. The Skyhawks had two runners in scoring position
with one out in the sixth, but Vanacore got a pair of pop outs to
escape the threat and retired the side in order in the seventh to
seal the win.

1 – Game Two
Le Moyne completed the sweep by
powering its way to a 12-1 win in six innings in game two. The top
third of the Dolphins lineup combined for seven of their 13
hits.

Kelly Schweikert led the way by
going 3-for-4 with a stolen base, two runs scored and four RBI.
Bailey Phillips was 2-for-2 with a walk, double, home run, four
runs scored and three RBI, while Kelcie Cashel finished 2-for-2
with a walk, double, stolen base and three runs scored. Freshman
Demetra Kermidas (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango
Valley) chipped in by going 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Vanacore scattered seven hits over
six innings to secure her 14th win of the year, yielding
just the one earned run with a strikeout and no walks.
Katy Abarr hit 2-for-3 with a run
scored for Stonehill. Sophomore Sarah
Stumper (Saint James, N.Y./Smithtown East) batted
2-for-2 for the Skyhawks.
Sophomore Samantha Krantz
(Hampton Bays, N.Y./Hampton Bays) took the loss (8-6),
surrendering five earned runs on six hits and a walk with no
strikeouts in 1.1 innings in the circle.
Le Moyne staked out a 5-0 lead
after an inning and a half as Schweikert got the Dolphins going
with a two-run single through the right side in the first, before
Phillips blasted a three-run homer in the second.
Stonehill loaded the bases with one
out in the second, but managed to get just one run back as Abarr
singled and later scored on a sacrifice fly to left by junior
Ashley Langlois
(Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield). Vanacore got a ground ball
to escape further damage.
Le Moyne scored three more in the
fourth as Schweikert and Kermidas collected RBI singles and a
Stonehill error led to another run. The Dolphins broke the game
open with a four-run sixth. Schweikert added another RBI single,
while sophomore Kate Waltman (Alplaus,
N.Y./Niskayuna) laced a two-run single to right and later
scored on an error.
