Skyhawks to victory
PHILADELPHIA, Pa.
(September 17, 2010) – Stonehill College, ranked
fourth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II
East Regional rankings, edged Chestnut Hill College, 5-4, to claim
victory in its first dual match of the season this afternoon.
Sophomore Paige Frost
(Brigantine, N.J./Holy Spirit) and freshman Kaitlyn
Martin (Medway, Mass./Medway) were both double-winners
to lead Stonehill to the win. Frost posted a 6-2, 6-0 victory over
Chestnut Hill freshman Amber Lawrence (Philadelphia,
Pa./Padua Academy) at sixth singles after teaming up with
classmate Chelsea Haedrich
(Islip, N.Y./Islip) for an 8-0 sweep at third doubles.
Martin cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win over sophomore Kristen
Wasson (Albrightsville, Pa./Jim Thorpe) at fifth singles
after combining with junior Leah White (Walpole,
Mass./Bishop Feehan) for an 8-1 victory at second
doubles.
Sophomore Jacquelyn Harrow (North Reading, Mass./North
Reading) posted the decisive point for Stonehill with her
6-0, 6-0 sweep of sophomore Danielle Knott (Mt. Vernon,
N.Y./Good Counsel Academy) at fourth singles.
Sophomore Nastia
Shcherbakova (Minsk, Belarus) and freshman Kelly
Dennis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) were
double-winners for Chestnut Hill, combining to pick up an 8-1 win
at first doubles. Shcherbakova also picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win at
first singles, while Dennis edged White, 4-6, 6-1, 10-4 and second
singles.
Stonehill (1-0, 0-0 NE-10) and
Chestnut Hill (2-3, 1-0 CACC) both are back in action tomorrow and
Sunday for the Wilson/ITA East Regional, hosted by Chestnut
Hill.
