Huselton paces Skyhawks to second NE-10 win
MANCHESTER, N.H. (September 25, 2010) –
The Stonehill College volleyball team took their second straight
Northeast-10 Conference victory on Saturday, defeating host Saint
Anselm College 3-1 (26-24, 25-16, 16-25, 25-16). Junior Laura Huselton (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) led
the offensive attack for Stonehill, recording a game-high 13 kills
and a .323 hitting percentage, and adding eight digs and two
service aces.
The Skyhawks also got strong defensive efforts from freshmen
Sydney
Maxey (Hutto, Texas/Hutto) and Jessica
Frankowski (Unionville, Conn./Farmington), and senior
Andrea
Wirth (Mesa, Ariz./St. Mary's) posted a double-double
with 15 assists and 10 digs.
Saint Anselm got a team-high 12 kills from junior Charlotte
Tencza (Greenfield, Mass./Deerfield Academy), and sophomore
Margaret Tereschuk (Mission Viejo, Cal./Laguna Hills) led all
players with 19 digs. Junior setter Rachel Flaherty (Cold Spring,
N.Y./Haldane) recorded 30 assists.
After taking the first set to a 26-24 finish, Stonehill went on
a seven-point run at the end of the second set, sparked by kills
from senior Laura Noonan
(Hampstead, N.H./Bishop Guertin) and freshman Kirsten
Arvidson (Andover, Mass./Andover), to win the second
set 25-16. Saint Anselm won the third set by the same margin, but
the Skyhawks rebounded for another 25-16 victory in the fourth and
final set behind four kills apiece from Arvidson and Huselton.
Stonehill (4-6, 2-0 NE-10) visits Bentley University on
Tuesday at 7 p.m. before returning home for an Alumni Weekend game
against Bridgeport on October 2.
