Sydney Maxey records 1,000th career dig for Stonehill

Junior outside hitter Sydney Maxey collected her 1,000th career dig versus Saint Rose.

EASTON, Mass. (October 20, 2012) – The Stonehill College women's volleyball team was handed a 3-1 setback by The College of Saint Rose in Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) action on Saturday afternoon in Merkert Gymnasium by scores of 22-25, 25-18, 15-25 and 18-25.

Junior outside hitter Sydney Maxey (Hutto, Texas/Hutto) recorded her 1,000th career dig in the first set as she entered play only needing one dig. Yesterday against Le Moyne College in a 3-2 win, Maxey posted 12 digs putting her one away from the milestone. Maxey currently has 1,006 career digs as the junior tallied 404 in her freshman season, 411 during her sophomore campaign and currently stands at 191 digs this fall.

Sophomore middle blocker Mary-Kate Catton (San Diego, Calif./Academy of Our Lady of Peace) had a team-leading eight kills to go along with a .412 hitting percentage, three block assists, two digs and two assists to lead the Skyhawks offense. Junior right-side hitter Kirsten Arvidson (Andover, Mass./Andover) notched seven kills, four block assists and two digs. Maxey added six kills, two assists and one block.

Sophomore setter Emily Iverson (Elmhurst, Ill./York) dished out a match-high 31 assists, 12 digs, four kills and one block assist. Defensively, senior libero Erin Kelly (Tinley Park, Ill./Marist) chipped in with a team-high 19 digs, six service aces and three assists. Junior defensive specialist Jessica Frankowski (Unionville, Conn./Farmington) compiled nine digs and two kills and freshman outside hitter Kelsey Weymouth (North Attleboro, Mass./North Attleboro) registered nine digs, three kills and one service ace.

For the Golden Knights, freshman outside hitter Kelsey Lace (Glendale, R.I./Mount Saint Charles) posted a double-double with 13 kills and ten digs. Junior middle hitter Alex Gagliano (Cornwall, N.Y./Cornwall) collected 12 kills, a .435 hitting percentage, five blocks (one solo), two digs and two service aces. Sophomore libero Katy Daniels (South Hadley, Mass./Frontier Regional) set a match-high in digs with 22 on the afternoon.

Saint Rose accumulated a .213 hitting percentage in four sets recording double-digit kills in each, 56 kills total, 12 service aces, 65 digs and eight blocks (one solo). Stonehill hit .158, had 41 kills, seven service aces, 64 digs and eight blocks (all assists).

Stonehill (11-10, 5-4 NE-10) hosts Southern New Hampshire University on Tuesday, October 23 in Merkert Gymnasium at 7 p.m. Saint Rose (11-8, 4-4 NE-10) welcome the Penmen on Friday, October 25 at 7 p.m.
