Toegemann leads Skyhawks to fourth straight victory
EASTON, Mass. (March 25, 2012) – Stonehill College, ranked seventh in the ITA East Regional rankings, picked up its fourth-straight win with an 8-1 decision over Assumption College in Northeast-10 Conference women's tennis action at Sally Blair Ames Sports Complex this afternoon.
Senior Amy Toegemann (Narragansett, R.I./The Lincoln School) led Stonehill to win as one of four double-winners for the Skyhawks. She combined with sophomore Kaitlyn Martin (Medway, Mass./Medway) for an 8-1 victory at No. 3 doubles and then topped Assumption freshman Chrissy Lyons (Holden, Mass./Worcester Academy) at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5).
Senior Sarah Hickey (Lee, Mass./Lee) and juniors Paige Frost (Brigantine, N.J./Holy Spirit) and Jacquelyn Harrow (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) were also double-winners for Stonehill. Hickey and Frost combined for an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles before Frost won 6-1, 4-3 at No. 3 singles after Assumption senior Jennifer Erickson (Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) retired. Hickey swept freshman Abby Blaisdell (Lewiston, Maine/Lewiston) at No. 4, 6-2, 6-2.
Harrow posted a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles over Assumption senior Marissa Charles (Mystic, Conn./Saint Bernard) after teaming up with senior Bacall Brooks (York, Maine/Saint Thomas Aquinas) for an 8-2 victory at No. 2 doubles. Freshman Meryl Lawrence (North Scituate, R.I./Mount Saint Charles Academy) also collected a win at No. 5 singles for the Skyhawks.
Junior Erica Micciche (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) notched the lone point for Assumption as she rallied for a 3-6, 6-1, 10-2 victory over Stonehill freshman Katie Gilligan (Wakefield, R.I./The Prout School) at No. 2 singles.
Stonehill (8-3, 6-0 NE-10) returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts rival Bentley University for a Northeast-10 match on Charles Watt Tennis Courts at 3 p.m. Assumption (5-9, 2-4 NE-10) hosts Franklin Pierce University on Thursday at 2 p.m.
