Stonehill Stops Assumption on Senior Day, 6-3

Kump leads three doublewinners for Skyhawks at No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles 

EASTON, Mass. (October 10, 2015) – Stonehill College, ranked sixth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional rankings, celebrated senior day with a key 6-3 decision over Assumption College in Northeast-10 Conference women's tennis action at Charles Watt Tennis Courts this afternoon.

Senior Analise Kump (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) led the doublewinners for Stonehill as she combined with sophomore Victoria Barbetta (Wesley Chapel, Florida/Saddlebrook Prep) for an 8-6 victory at No. 2 doubles to ensure a 2-1 edge for the Skyhawks after doubles play. Kump also notched a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles against Assumption freshman Paige Benoit (Holden, Massachusetts/St. Peter Marian). Barbetta also contributed a singles win with her 6-4, 6-4 triumph at No. 4 against senior Aubrey Lovejoy (Holden, Massachusetts/Wachusett).

Freshman Nicole Downey (Groveland, Massachusetts/Pentucket Regional) also won in both singles and doubles play for Stonehill. She and sophomore Emma Prinos (Foxboro, Massachusetts/Foxboro) combined for an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles and then Downey remained unbeaten singles play in her first collegiate season with a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 5 against sophomore Maggie Holland (Newburyport, Massachusetts/St. Thomas Aquinas) to improve to 14-0 this fall. Senior Kirsti Toegemann (Narragansett, Rhode Island/The Lincoln School) also contributed a point for the Skyhawks with her 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles against junior Hannah Riley (Ellington, Connecticut/Ellington).

Sophomore Cassie Burbine (Londonderry, New Hampshire/Londonderry) earned a pair of points for Assumption. She and Riley started with an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles before Burbine topped Stonehill senior Bailey Paradiso (Birmingham, Michigan/Marian) 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Senior Cassy Waung (Bolton, Connecticut/East Catholic) contributed a 7-6 (7-5), 6-0 win at No. 6 singles against senior Caitlin McKinney (Braintree, Massachusetts/Braintree).

Stonehill (10-2, 9-1 NE-10) is back in action on Monday when it hosts Adelphi University in a key matchup of regionally ranked teams for a makeup match of a September 25 postponement at Watt Courts at 2 p.m. Assumption (8-4, 7-3 NE-10) visits Southern New Hampshire University on Monday at noon.
