Women's Tennis Shuts Out New Haven, 9-0

Paradiso and Toegemann earn singles and doubles wins at top flights to lead Skyhawks to sixth straight win 

EASTON, Mass. (October 7, 2015) – Stonehill College, ranked sixth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional rankings, extended its winning streak to six matches with a 9-0 triumph over the University of New Haven in Northeast-10 Conference women's tennis action at Charles Watt Tennis Courts this afternoon.

Seniors Bailey Paradiso (Birmingham, Michigan/Marian) and Kirsti Toegemann (Narragansett, Rhode Island/The Lincoln School) led four double winners for Stonehill with victories at the top flights. The duo combined for an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles to lead a sweep of the three doubles matches for the Skyhawks by the same score line. Paradiso followed that up with a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles against New Haven senior Alexandra Sharshakov (Reisterstown, Maryland/Garrison Forest). Toegemann registered a 6-0, 6-2 win over senior Angelica Pecci (Watertown, Connecticut/Holy Cross) at No. 2 singles.

Sophomore Emma Prinos (Foxboro, Massachusetts/Foxboro) and freshman Nicole Downey (Groveland, Massachusetts/Pentucket Regional) rounded out Stonehill winners at both singles and doubles. The teamed up for an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles and then Downey provided the decisive fifth point for the Skyhawks with her 6-1, 6-1 decision at No. 3 singles against freshman Kristen McCormick (Galloway, New Jersey/Absegami). Prinos breezed to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles against junior Sarah Burzin (Ivoryton, Connecticut/Valley Regional).

Senior Analise Kump (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) and sophomore Victoria Barbetta (Wesley Chapel, Florida/Saddlebrook Prep) combined for an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles for Stonehill, while juniors Lorraine Smith (Littleton, Colorado/D'Evelyn) and Amanda DePasquale (Londonderry, New Hampshire/Londonderry) each notched singles wins at No .5 and No. 6, respectively.

Stonehill (9-2, 8-1 NE-10) returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Assumption College for a Northeast-10 matchup on Senior Day at Watt Courts at 1 p.m. New Haven (1-9, 1-9 NE-10) visits Le Moyne College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
