Women's Tennis Defeats Holy Cross, 5-2

Barbetta earns singles and doubles wins for Skyhawks

EASTON, Mass. (April 3, 2016) – Stonehill College, ranked sixth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional rankings, earned a 5-2 victory over Division I College of the Holy Cross in non-conference women's tennis action inside the Sally Blair Ames Sports Complex this afternoon.

Sophomore Victoria Barbetta (Wesley Chapel, Florida/Saddlebrook Prep) led Stonehill to its first spring win with victories at No. 1 doubles and No. 3 singles. She teamed up with senior Analise Kump (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) for a 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles as the Skyhawks picked up a point in the match by taking two of three doubles matches. Barbetta was one of four singles winners for the Skyhawks to clinch the win, posting a 6-0, 6-3 win over Holy Cross senior Abby Henry (Wellesley, Massachusetts/Wellesley).

Senior Kirsti Toegemann (Narragansett, Rhode Island/The Lincoln School) won the deciding point for Stonehill with her 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles against senior Cassy Deng (Eden Prairie, Minnesota/Eden Prairie). Sophomores Melissa Parker (Madison, Connecticut/Daniel Hand) and Janet Haas (Northbridge, Massachusetts/Northbridge) teamed up with a 7-5 decision at No. 3 doubles that clinched the 2-1 edge in doubles play to give the Skyhawks a point. Sophomore Emma Prinos (Foxboro, Massachusetts/Foxboro) and freshman Nicole Downey (Groveland, Massachusetts/Pentucket Regional) also earned points for the Skyhawks with their wins at No. 4 and 5 singles, respectively.

Freshman Allison Reiling (Mendham, New Jersey/Morristown-Beard) posted a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles against Stonehill senior Bailey Paradiso (Birmingham, Michigan/Marian). Freshman Caroline Kam (Stonington, Connecticut/St. George's) added an 8-3 win at No. 6 singles for the Crusaders against freshman Courtenay Cavett (Plano, Texas/Ursuline Academy of Dallas).

Stonehill (14-9, 10-2 NE-10) is off for the next two weeks before closing out its regular season schedule at Division I University of Hartford on Sunday, April 17, at 3 p.m. Holy Cross (1-9, 0-4 Patriot) hosts Salve Regina University on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
