Sabo tallies his sixth-straight game with at least one RBI

Orzechowski is the only Skyhawk to have registered a hit in every game this season, thus far

WEST PALM BEACH, Florida (March 2, 2019) – The Stonehill College baseball team, who is ranked No. 8 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division II East Region Poll, opened spring break in a tough 15-5 loss to Wilmington (Del.) University, who is ranked No. 21 in the NCBWA National Poll and No. 2 in the East Region Poll, on Saturday.

For Stonehill (3-3), senior Harrison Sabo was the only Skyhawk who had a multi-hit day swinging 3-for-5 at the plate with one RBI, while John Orzechowski went 1-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored and William Kelleher tallied the third RBI.

Four Wildcats totaled multi-RBI days, including Julian Kurych and Frank Nigro who tallied three, as Kendall Small and Matt Stepnoski registered two RBI each.

This is the fourth game out of six this season that the Skyhawks have scored first, this time scoring in the top of the second. With one out, Kelleher flew out to centerfield to score Aidan Wilde from third base who previously tripled to the same field for a 1-0 lead.

Wilde registered his first-collegiate triple

Wilmington responded scoring runs in the third through sixth innings totaling 14 runs over the four innings. The Wildcats really opened up the game in the bottom of the fifth inning with six runs off of four hits, including two singles, two doubles, and three walks. The Skyhawks picked up a run in the top of the sixth as Orzechowski led off with a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Sabo singled to right field easily scoring Orzechowski from second, and Wilmington retired the side with three-straight strikeouts.

Stonehill strung together four hits for three runs in the top of the seventh inning, as the Skyhawks started off with a runner on first and second with one out, before Matthew Rocco reached on a fielding error bringing home Ryan Hodgkins and Ryan Abel. Orzechowski followed that up with a single to center field driving home Rocco, cutting the deficit to nine, 14-5.

The Wildcats squeezed in one more run in the bottom of the eighth inning and then held off the Skyhawks in the top of the ninth to see their fourth game this season determined by 10 or more runs.

The Skyhawks face Concordia (N.Y.) College tomorrow in a doubleheader at the Santaluces Complex in Palm Beach, Florida with a first pitch at 2 p.m.
