Baseball Takes Two Against Caldwell

Wilde went 2-for-3 with 3 runs scored, 3 RBI, homerun in two games

Lake Worth, Florida (March 7, 2020) – The Stonehill College baseball team secured two regional victories on Sunday as they defeated Caldwell University, 9-3 and then 11-3 in game two at the Santaluces Sports Complex in Florida.

Game 1: Stonehill 9 – Caldwell 3 (7 innings)

Standout Performers:  

Key Moments:

  • After a scoreless first inning, Stonehill scored three runs in the top of the second as Maher tripled with runners on first and third and Noah Lucier flew out to right field driving in the freshman from third for a 3-0 advantage.
  •  The Skyhawks scored one more in the top of the third on a sacrifice fly from Kiely for a 4-0 lead, before the Cougars responded with three runs on four hits in the later half of the frame to cut the deficit to one, 4-3.
  • Wilde tallied his third homerun of season with one out in the top of the fourth to extend their lead to two, 5-3. Stonehill totaled three runs between the sixth and seventh innings to secure a 9-3 victory.

Jaena threw a complete game with three earned runs and 5 strikeouts for his second win of the season 

Standout Performers:

Key Moments:

  • The Cougars jumped on board in the first inning with two runs on an RBI double from Rullan and a strike out swinging wild pitch.
  • Stonehill responded in the bottom of the third with three runs on two hits, including a fielder's choice, a ground out and a single.
  • Caldwell tied the game at three, 3-3, in the fifth inning as they threatened putting two on base. March then dropped a bunt to score Lehmann from third.
  • Stonehill's big inning came in the bottom of the sixth, as they put up eight runs off six hits. Five of the six runs came off of one out. The Skyhawks held off the Cougars in the top of the seventh as they retired two quickly. Caldwell then put runners on second and third, but Jaena finished the inning with a groundout to shortstop holding on for his second win of the season.
