EASTON, Mass. (October 27, 2024) – The Stonehill College women's tennis defeated Wagner College at the Charles Watt Tennis Courts, 5-2, in a Northeast Conference contest to improve to 3-0 in the fall in dual matches as well as 1-0 in NEC matches.
Highlights
- Junior captain Anneliese Beltran (Mexico City, Mexico) and sophomore Julie Holte (Oslo, Norway) improved to 3-1 as a doubles pair, winning all three on the first court.
- The Skyhawks swept all three doubles matches while winning four of the six singles matches to win 5-2, moving to 3-0 in dual matches this season while also winning an exhibition over Bryant.
- In the longest singles match of the year for the Skyhawks, Beltran won in a dramatic third-set tiebreak, 11-9, to improve to 4-2 in singles matches this season.
- Holte and sophomore Alice Brito do Rio (Angra do Heroismo, Portugal) also won their singles matches, with Holte improving to 5-2 on the year and Brito do Rio is now 3-2.
- Brito do Rio and doubles partner sophomore Madison Warren (Frederick, Md.) continued their strong play as a double pairing, winning on the second court, and moving to 4-1 this season.
- The freshmen duo of Arya Chabria (Columbus, Ohio) and Lilah Shallcross (Prospect, Ky.) regrouped after opening the season together as a doubles pairing, improving to 2-0 together.
How It Happened
- On the first doubles court, Beltran and Holte defeated Daniela Hernandez and Victoria Madail Perez, 6-2.
- Brito do Rio and Warren won together on the second court, 6-4, over Wagner's Liepa Sataite and Dariana Vera.
- Chabria and Shallcross completed the double sweep for the Skyhawks with a 6-2 win over Paula Ysabelle Uy and Jade Schoenfield.
- On the first singles court, Holte defeated Sataite with a 6-4 third-set tiebreaker.
- Shallcross played on the second court for the first time in her young career, dropping her match against Hernandez in two sets.
- Warren got back in the win column in her singles match against Madail Perez, winning both sets 6-4 in the No. 3 slot.
- Beltran defeated Paula Ysabelle in exciting fashion, winning the first set 6-4, dropping the next 6-7, before winning the tiebreaker 11-9.
- Chabria dropped her singles match in the fifth spot against Vera, 4-6, 3-6.
- Brito do Rio closed out Saturday's match with a 6-1, 6-0 win against Jasmine Lin to secure the 5-2 match win for the Skyhawks.
