EASTON, Mass. (October 27, 2024) – Despite winning two of the three doubles courts, the Stonehill College women's tennis team dropped its 2025 spring opener at the Lakeville Athletic Center against Colgate University on Saturday, 5-2.
Highlights
- After going 3-1 in the fall as a doubles pairing, all on the first court, junior captain Anneliese Beltran (Mexico City, Mexico) and sophomore Julie Holte (Oslo, Norway) defeated the duo of Amelia Galin and Sophia Montero, 6-2, on the first court.
- The duo of freshmen Arya Chabria (Columbus, Ohio) and Lilah Shallcross (Prospect, Ky.) are now 3-0 as a pairing, defeating Eliza Podlas and Avery Isaac on the no. 3 court, securing one point for the Skyhawks as a team.
- Shallcross was the lone Skyhawk to win her singles matchup, defeating Podlas, 6-4, 6-3, from the No. 4 court.
How It Happened
- The pairing of sophomores Madison Warren (Frederick, Md.) and Alice Brito do Rio (Angra do Heroismo, Portugal) dropped their doubles matchup on the No. 2 court to Carina Cristobal and Sasha Herman, 5-7.
- Holte fell in a tightly contested battle with Galin on the first singles court in two sets, 6-7, 4-6.
- Warren was defeated by Montero on the No. 2 singles court in a third-set, 10-point tiebreaker. Warren won the first set, 6-3, but lost the second, 5-7, before losing the tiebreaker, 7-10.
- Beltran fell to Addie Eklund on the third court in two sets, 6-1, 6-2.
- Chabria dropped her singles match in the fifth spot against Herman, 5-7, 1-6.
- On the sixth court, Brito Do Rio was bested by Rebecca Hess in two sets, 2-6, 6-7. The second set included a tiebreaker that Hess won 8-6 to close out the evening's dual match with Colgate winning, 5-2.
