DEWITT, N.Y. (February 17, 2025) – The Stonehill College women's tennis team fell, 3-4, to Le Moyne on Monday at Elevate Fitness in a Northeast Conference matinee that saw the Skyhawks win two of the three doubles courts before dropping four of the six singles courts.
Highlights
- Improving to 5-0 as a pairing on the first doubles court this spring was junior captain Anneliese Beltran (Mexico City, Mexico) and sophomore Julie Holte (Oslo, Norway), defeating Feriel Mahbouli and Ella Fernando, 7-5.
- Holte and freshman Lilah Shallcross went 2-0 against the Dolphins this morning, winning their singles and doubles matches for the second consecutive day.
- Shallcross and classmate Arya Chabria (Columbus, Ohio) won on the second doubles court for the second straight match, defeating Isabella Barona and Charlotte Klein, 6-2.
- Holte defeated Klein on the first singles court, 6-2, 6-4, while Shallcross won in three sets on the third court over Fernando, 6-4, 3-6, 7-5.
How It Happened
- Sophomores Madison Warren (Frederick, Md.) and Alice Brito do Rio (Angra do Heroismo, Portugal) dropped their match to Stella Simeonova and Alicia Alvarez on the No. 3 doubles court, 6-7.
- With the pairings of Beltran/Holte and Shallcross/Chabria winning on the first and second doubles courts, the Skyhawks have won the doubles point in all five matches this spring.
- Warren fell on the No. 2 singles court to Mahbouli, 4-6, 3-6.
- In her win on the third singles court, Shallcross fought back from down 4-5 in the third set to secure the 7-5 win in the tiebreaker, putting Stonehill up 3-2 at the time.
- Beltran was defeated by Paula Casares, 1-6, 1-6, on the fourth singles court.
- Brito do Rio was bested by Barona on the fifth singles court in a third-set tiebreaker, 6-3, 2-6, 3-6.
- Junior Camila Zuluaga Rodriguez (Medellin, Colombia) dropped her singles match on the No. 6 court to Alvarez, 2-6, 2-6.
