WALPOLE, Mass. (February 8, 2025) – The Stonehill College women's tennis team defeated Providence College, 5-2, at the Wimbledon 109 Tennis Club Saturday evening as the Skyhawks won two of the three doubles courts and four of six singles.
Highlights
- Junior captain Anneliese Beltran (Mexico City, Mexico) and sophomore Julie Holte (Oslo, Norway) improved to 2-0 as a pairing this spring, defeating Allison Root and Flora Eidson, 6-1, on the first court.
- After falling in their first doubles pairing of the spring, sophomores Madison Warren (Frederick, Md.) and Alice Brito do Rio (Angra do Heroismo, Portugal) got back in the win column with a 7-5 victory over Camila Barrera Aguirre and Mae Abreu.
- Holte, Warren, Brito do Rio, and freshman Lilah Shallcross (Prospect, Ky.) all won their singles matches to secure the 5-2 win for the Skyhawks.
How It Happened
- After winning her doubles match with Beltran, Holte went into a three-set tiebreaker with Eidson, pulling out the victory, 6-2, 3-6, 1-0.
- The freshmen duo of Arya Chabria (Columbus, Ohio) and Shallcross dropped their doubles match, 4-6, to Elis Leik and Elisa Davalos.
- Following in Holte's footsteps were both Warren and Brito do Rio, who also had undefeated days by winning their singles and doubles matches.
- Warren defeated Barrera Aguirre, 7-5, 7-6, in the No. 2 spot in a closely contested match.
- Brito do Rio secured the Skyhawks' fifth point of the evening on the sixth court, defeating Davalos, 6-2, 6-1.
- Shallcross won her singles match in dominant fashion, taking down Gabriella Plonowski on the No. 4 court, 6-1, 6-0.
- Beltran would lose her singles match in a third-set tiebreaker, 6-2, 1-6, 0-1, to Abreu on the third court.
- Chabria fell to Leik, 0-6, 2-6, in the No. 5 slot.
