EASTON, Mass. (June 24, 2025) – Stonehill College has announced the hiring of
Sean Callahan as its new head baseball coach. Callahan becomes the sixth head coach in the program's 57-year history, succeeding
Pat Boen '89, who recently retired after 28 seasons at the helm.
"We are excited to introduce Sean as our new head baseball coach and know he will be exceptional in his ability to lead this program on the rise," said Director of Athletics
Dean O'Keefe. "Both while an assistant at Stonehill and during his time serving as our interim head coach, Sean has demonstrated a strong ability to coach and mentor student-athletes, and his previous successful experience as a collegiate head coach will serve him well in this new role."
Callahan served as the program's Associate Head Coach under Boen for the past two years, helping guide the Skyhawks to their first-ever appearance in the NEC Postseason Tournament in 2025. Stonehill finished the regular season with a 20-30 overall record and an 18-12 mark in conference play.
In his two seasons as Associate Head Coach, Callahan helped the Skyhawks to 38 wins and played a key role in the development of a potent offense. Over that span, the Skyhawks posted a collective .279 team batting average, while racking up 160 doubles, 132 home runs, and 682 runs batted in.
"I'm honored to be the new Head Baseball Coach at Stonehill College," said Callahan. "Thank you to
Dean O'Keefe and the selection committee for this tremendous opportunity." I'm confident we'll continue to succeed and build upon the great legacy and foundation left by Pat Boen. I'm excited to get started and look forward to the future."
Before returning to Stonehill, Callahan spent five seasons (2018–2023) as the head coach at his alma mater, Framingham State University. He was named the 2023 MASCAC Coach of the Year after leading the Rams to a 26-15 record and their first-ever regular season conference title. During his tenure, he revitalized the program, mentoring 25 All-Conference selections and six All-Region honorees, while also spearheading fundraising efforts and improvements to the team's indoor facilities and overall program culture.
Callahan's coaching career also includes three years as an assistant at the NCAA Division II and III levels. In 2018, he served as an assistant coach at Stonehill, where he coordinated scouting efforts, led the offseason strength and conditioning program, and contributed to all facets of recruiting. Prior to that, he spent two seasons as the hitting and catching coach at UMass Boston, helping guide the Beacons to significant postseason success. The program captured the 2016 Little East regular season title, and in 2017, won both the Little East Conference Championship and the NCAA Division III New England Regional, advancing to the College World Series in Appleton, Wisconsin.
Following the 2017 season, Callahan joined the Wareham Gatemen of the Cape Cod Baseball League as an assistant coach.
A 2011 graduate of Framingham State with a degree in business administration, Callahan was a four-year starting catcher for the Rams from 2008–2011. He served as team captain in his senior season and earned All-MASCAC honors as a junior, helping lead the program to a then-school-record 24 wins and a berth in the ECAC Tournament semifinals.
