CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Stonehill women's volleyball team closes out BC Invitational, falling to Bucknell, in four sets, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon.
STONEHILL HIGHLIGHTS
- Senior Addy Frye led three double figure kills with 17, while tallying 13 digs for a double-double.
- Sophomore Sam Loyd posted a .367 attack percentage with 15 kills on 30 attempts and just four miscues.
- Sophomore Kendra Sawyer registered her third double-double on the season, pacing the offense with 43 assists and notching 11 digs.
- The Skyhawks hit .283 as a team with 55 kills.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Skyhawks jumped out to an early 4-1 lead but the Bison answered with a 7-1 run to tak an 8-5 lead. Stonehill remained resilient and closed the gap to 21-18 lead, but was unable to pull out the first set.
Hitting a staggering .421 in the second set, the Skyhawks looked poised to tie the match up at 1-1 as they controlled much of the second set. The survived a set point to knot up the score at 24-24, but back-to-back Bucknell kills helped them claim the match, 26-4, and take the two-match lead.
Stonehill refused to go away, controlling the third set from the opening serve, the forced a fourth set, hitting .542 to win the set, 25-16. Senior
Addy Frye led the way with six kills, while sophomore
Sam Loyd was nearly perfecting hitting .750 with three kills on four attempts.
However, Bucknell answered in the fourth set, opening with a 9-4 run and never looked back to take the set 25-14.
