Harrisville, R.I.
- The Skyhawks put on their highest scoring
display of the early season but it wasn't enough to topple the
undefeated Bison of Nichols College as Stonehill lost 5-4 on
Saturday evening at Levy Rink.
The Bison put the first tally on the board as they took
advantage of a Skyhawk hooking penalty at the 8:09 mark, scoring a
minute and a half into the power play to take the 1-0 lead.
Stonehill tied up the score four minutes later when freshman
Bill Harris (Weymouth, Mass.) put home his first
goal in a Skyhawk uniform on a deflection of a Brendan
O'Brien (Braintree, Mass.) shot.
The first period ended in a one all tie but the Skyhawks changed
that as Pete Roundy (Simsbury, Conn.) scored just
ten seconds into the period to give Stonehill the 2-1 lead.
Nichols once again took advantage of a Skyhawk penalty five
minutes into second, scoring their second power play goal of the
game. Stonehill responded three and half minutes later as
Bill Ninteau (Litchfield, N.H.) put home the
go-ahead goal.
However, the Bison tied the game up three minutes later on a
Zack Hendrickson shot. They then took the lead at the 11:28
mark and grabbed a 5-3 advantage on their third power play goal of
the game.
Paul Reissfelder (Plymouth, Mass.) cut the
Nichols lead to one with just four minutes remaining in the half
but Stonehill wasn't able to get the equalizer in the second
period.
The third period saw three Bison penalties but the Skyhawks were
unable to take advantage as they fired four shots on goal but game
up empty in their comeback effort.
Brendan O'Brien had three assists for Stonehill while
Mike Manna (Framingham, Mass.) had 31 stops in
net. The loss drops the Skyhawks to 0-3.
Stonehill returns to action when they travel to take on
Fitchburg State on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m.
