Skyhawks Lose Second Straight In Overtime
Boxscore
East Providence, R.I. – Stonehill let
another late game lead slip away, giving up two goals in the third
and Johnson and Wales capitalized in overtime to take down the
Skyhawks 3-2 on Thursday evening.
Stonehill started out the game determined to end early season
winless streak. It looked promising early as the Skyhawks took a
1-0 lead on James Florentino's (West
Roxbury, Mass.) third goal of the season with just 13 seconds
remaining in the first period.
In the second, Stonehill continued to pressure the Wildcats,
firing 19 shots on goalie JR Woodland but were denied. However they
did draw a game misconduct penalty with five minutes left in the
period, but were unable to convert.
Still on the power play in the third, Bill
Ninteau (Litchfield, N.H.) scored his second goal of the
season off a David Schermerhorn (Norwich, Conn.)
pass to make it 2-0 less than three minutes into the period.
The lead wouldn't hold though as Johnson and Wales cut the
lead in half at the 13:12 mark and then tied the game up less than
a minute later on a Tyler Bickford score.
Stonehill couldn't score and went to overtime for the second
time in three days. In the extra period the Skyhawks held off the
Wildcats and were poised for a tie, but a Joe Sullivan goal with
just two seconds left ended any hope drawing with Johnson and
Wales.
Freshman Derek Chapdelaine (Granby, Mass.) made
his first career start, stopping 40 shots, but it wasn't
enough as Stonehill dropped to 0-6 on the season.
The Skyhawks return to action on Saturday when they host 2-5
Southern New Hampshire at the Foxboro Sports Center at 2:00 p.m.
