Boston, Mass. - The Skyhawks came back from a
one goal deficit in the final period, scoring in the final 30
seconds and Paul Reissfelder (Plymouth, Mass.)
scored in overtime as Stonehill extended their winning streak to
three games with a 4-3 win over Wentworth on Tuesday night.
For the second game in a row, it was the opposition that struck
first as Casey Shade gave the Leopards a 1-0 lead just six and a
half minutes into the contest.
It would be the only goal of the period as the Skyhawks were
held to just six shots while allowing 17 on goaltender
Derek Chapdelaine (Granby, Mass.).
Stonehill however, wasted little time tying it up in the second
as freshman Andrew Diozzi (Belmont, Mass.) scored
on assists from Bill Ninteau (Litchfield, N.H.)
and Eric Scholl (Wilmington, Mass.) just 30
seconds into the period.
The Skyhawks grabbed a 2-1 lead at the 18:41 mark as
Zachary Cantin (Walpole, Mass.) scored his second
goal in as many games as Stonehill went into the third with the one
goal advantage.
Wentworth wouldn't go down quietly and knotted the game up at
two just under five minutes into the period on a shot by Joey
Sides.
The Leopards continued to pressure the Chapdelaine, finally
scoring on their 12th shot of the period, an unassisted
goal by Forrest Ellis.
Facing a one goal deficit the Skyhawks called a timeout with
just under a minute remaining. Out of the timeout Stonehill
pulled Chapdelaine and put an additionally skater on the ice.
The gamble paid off as O'Brien scored with just 29 seconds left
to tie the game up at three and sent the game into overtime.
In the extra session, Reissfelder scored on the Skyhawks second
shot to deliver the 4-3 win.
Chapdelaine was big in net for Stonehill, stopping 38 shots,
while O'Brien had a goal and an assist for the second straight
game.
Diozzi had his third straight multiple point game while Ninteau
finished the contest with two assists.
With the victory the Skyhawks improve to 3-7. They return
to action on Saturday when they travel to take on Suffolk at 7:15
p.m.
