Stonehill Rolls Past New Haven, 9-0
Skyhawks cruise to
15th-straight NE-10 regular season win
WOODBRIDGE, Conn. (October
2, 2009) - Stonehill College rolled to its
15th-straight Northeast-10 Conference regular season
victory with a 9-0 decision over the University of New Haven in
women's tennis action this afternoon.
Sophomores Amy Toegemann
(Narragansett, R.I./The Lincoln School) and Leah
White (Walpole, Mass./Bishop Feehan) along with freshman
Jacqueline Harrow (North Reading, Mass./North
Reading) were all double-winners for Stonehill. Toegemann
posted a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles after teaming up with senior
Samantha Dircks (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville)
for an 8-5 win at first doubles. White rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 win at
No. 2 singles after combining with sophomore Bacall Brooks
(York, Maine/Saint Thomas Aquinas) for an 8-2 win at
second doubles. Harrow notched a 6-0, 6-1 triumph at fourth singles
after claiming an 8-1 victory at third doubles with freshman
Chelsea Haedrich (Islip, N.Y./Islip).
Sophomore Lindsay Simmons
(Wethersfield, Conn./Wethersfield) and freshmen
Paige Frost (Brigantine, N.J./Holy Spirit) and
Jessica Martin (Pittsfield, Mass./St. Joseph
Central) also picked up singles victories on the day.
Stonehill (3-0, 3-0 NE-10) wraps up
its fall season on Sunday when it participates in the Hall of Fame
Grass Courts Invitational, hosted by the International Tennis Hall
of Fame in Newport, R.I. New Haven (1-2, 0-2 NE-10) hosts Saint
Michael's College on Sunday at 11 a.m.
