Nichols Withstands Stonehill Rally, 8-6
Kohn posts seven-point game
as Bison nets winner with 1:42 to play

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (November
24, 2009) - Nichols College withstood two furious
Stonehill College comeback efforts to claim a thrilling 8-6 triumph
in non-conference ice hockey action at the Foxborough Sports Center
tonight.
Freshman Zach Kohn
(Hartland, Wis.) posted a seven-point night to lead
Nichols to its second-straight win, posting four goals and three
assists. He led a Bison power-play that was an efficient 4-for-6
(66.7%) on the night with two power-play goals of his own and also
set up the game-winner with 1:42 to play in regulation. Junior
Will Munson (Corona, Calif.) dished out six
assists on the night, setting up the Bison's first four goals.
Sophomore Andrew Letellier
(Saco, Maine) posted two goals and two assists for four
points for Nichols, while classmate Andrew Ella (Schomberg,
Ontario) added a goal and two assists. The Bison also got
a goal from senior Eric Cremer (Chelsea, Mich.).
Freshman George DeMello
(Cotuit, Mass./Tabor Academy) notched his first collegiate
hat trick to lead Stonehill, who erased deficits of three and two
goals on the night. Sophomore Matthew Doherty (Milton,
Mass./Thayer Academy) posted a goal and assist for the
Skyhawks, while sophomores Patrick Greene (Weymouth,
Mass./Catholic Memorial) and Bill Harris
(Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) and freshman Sean
McNeil (Canton, Mass./Canton) all dished two assists.
Stonehill also got goals from juniors John Yokow (Windsor,
Conn./Northwest Catholic) and Michael Tuplin
(Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth).
The teams traded goals over the
opening 6:32 before Nichols seemingly assumed control with
three-straight power-play goals to close out the opening period.
The opening stanza featured five power-play goals in all - four by
Nichols. Kohn finished the period with a hat trick, netting the
last two goals of the frame, while Munson dished four assists and
Letellier contributed two goals and an assist.
Stonehill fought back in the game
with a pair of second period goals, the first coming on the power
play by DeMello 3:57 into the period. Tuplin drew the Skyhawks
within a goal with his first career goal, unassisted 11:03 into the
frame.
Nichols regained a two-goal cushion
(6-4) with Ella's goal 4:38 into the third period, but Stonehill
responded with two goals within a three-minute span midway through
the period to knot the score at 6-6. DeMello rounded out his hat
trick 9:21 into the third, assisted by McNeil and Greene, before
Doherty tied the game with a power-play goal, assisted by Harris,
at 12:19.
Cremer broke the deadlock with 1:42
to play, assisted by Kohn and Letellier, before Nichols iced the
game with an empty net goal by Kohn with one second on the clock.
Stonehill (2-5-1, 0-2-0 NE-10)
returns to action this weekend when it participates in the
PAL/Stovepipe Tournament, hosted by Southern New Hampshire
University, beginning with a matchup with the University of
Massachusetts Boston on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. The Skyhawks return
home on Tuesday, December 1, to host Worcester State College at 7
p.m. Nichols (3-1-1, 1-1-0 ECAC-NE) takes part in the Skidmore
Tournament with a matchup with the hosts on Saturday at 2 p.m.
