Boxscore
Easton, Mass. - The Skyhawks
clinched their first ever undefeated NE-10 regular season with a
7-2 victory over Merrimack on Sunday. Stonehill finished a
perfect 10-0 in league play and clinched the No. 1 seed for the
upcoming playoffs.
With the win the Skyhawks also improved their record to 17-3 on
the season, just a victory short of matching the program record for
wins in a season (18) set last year. The win was also the
250th career victory for coach Peter Miller who is in
29th season at the helm of the Stonehill men's tennis
program.
The Skyhawks opened up the match with excellent doubles play, as
sophomore Tim Fayed (Glastonbury, Conn.) and
junior Mike Mashkevich (Framingham, Mass.) won
8-3. No. 2 and 3 doubles followed suit, winning 8-4 and 9-8 to take
the early 3-0 advantage.
In singles play Fayed, and senior captains Jason
Allegretti (Lincoln, R.I.) and Will
Herchel (Hampden, Mass.) all won in straight sets to seal
the conference title for Stonehill. Mashkevich added the final win
for the Skyhawks, taking No. 2 singles in three sets.
Stonehill returns to action tomorrow when they play Division III
Springfield at 4:30 p.m.
