Skyhawks Advance To NE-10 Final With Comeback

- The Skyhawks lost two of three doubles matches
to St. Michael's but came back in singles to win 5-3 and advance to
their third Northeast-10 Conference Championship in five years on
Thursday afternoon.
The Skyhawks improved to 18-3 with the win, breaking the old
school record for victories in a season (17), set in 2006.
In doubles play, it was St. Michael's who came out with a 2-1
advantage, as they won at No. 2 and No. 3. Stonehill's lone
victory was from the team of Lindsey Herchel
(Hampden, Mass.) and Amy Toegemann (Narragansett,
R.I.) who won 8-6.
The Purple Knights pushed their lead to 3-1, as Herchel lost at
No. 1 singles 6-4, 6-3. The Skyhawks first singles win came
from Caitlin Ryan (Medfield, Mass.) at No. 4, and
Sarah Hickey (Lee, Mass.) evened play up at 3-3
with her 16th consecutive straight set win of the year, 7-6 (7-4),
6-4.
The Skyhawks final two victories came from Leah
White (East Walpole, Mass.) at No. 3 singles and
Emily Broderick (Middlebury, Conn.) at No. 6
singles.
Stonehill returns to action on Sunday when they face off against
Bentley at 12:30 p.m. with the conference title on the line.
