hat trick erases early deficit as Skyhawks open season with
win
Junior Kirstie St. Martin netted a first half hat trick to
lift Stonehill to a season-opening win over Holy Family this
afternoon.

N.J. (August 29, 2009) - Stonehill College junior
Kirstie St. Martin (Providence, R.I./Mount Saint Charles
Academy) scored all three goals to lead the Skyhawks to a
3-1 victory over Holy Family University at Georgian Court
University this afternoon.
St. Martin's hat trick erased an
early goal scored by Holy Family freshman Megan Tole
(Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) just 4:58 into her
collegiate debut. Junior Julia Swierzoski (Albany,
N.Y./Albany) and sophomore Kelsey Mahoney
(Rehoboth, Mass./Dighton-Rehoboth) collected assists on
St. Martin's first two goals before she completed her three goal
burst with an unassisted tally in the 43rd minute.
Sophomore Sarah Hickey (Lee,
Mass./Lee) preserved the win for Stonehill with eight
saves (six second half) in goal. Holy Family sophomore goalkeeper
Gina Mansi (Washington Township, N.J./Washington
Township) finished with seven stops as the Skyhawks
finished with a 12-9 advantage in shots for the afternoon (7-2
first half).
Tole opened the scoring in the fifth
minute off a feed from senior Ashley Antczak (Westville,
N.J./West Deptford). St. Martin equalized for Stonehill in
the 26th minute, assisted by Swierzoski, and then netted
the go ahead goal in the 39th minute, assisted by
Mahoney, before completing her hat trick just before halftime.
Stonehill (1-0-0, 0-0-0 NE-10) is
back in action tomorrow when it faces Georgian Court at 1 p.m. Holy
Family (0-1-0, 0-0-0 CACC) will face No. 4-ranked The College of
Saint Rose tomorrow at 4 p.m.
