Stonehill Blanks Franklin Pierce, 9-0
Skyhawks open defense of
NE-10 title with decisive victory

N.H. (September 26, 2009) - Stonehill College opened
defense of its Northeast-10 Conference men's tennis championship
with a 9-0 victory at Franklin Pierce University today.
Seniors Michael Mashkevich
(Goleta, Calif./Framingham (Mass.)) and Michael
Leone (Cataumet, Mass./Bourne) led the double winners for
Stonehill. Mashkevich ground out a 6-2, 6-7 (4-7), 10-7 victory at
No. 1 singles after teaming up with sophomore Jonathan
Burke (Wakefield, R.I./South Kingstown) for an 8-2
decision at No. 1 singles. Leone posted a 7-5, 6-7 (3-7), 10-6 win
at No. 2 singles after combining with freshman Chris Martin
(Darien, Conn./Darien) for an 8-2 victory at No. 2
doubles.
Martin also swept his way to a 6-0,
6-0 win at No. 3 singles, while Burke rolled to an identical
victory at No. 4 singles.
Stonehill (1-1, 1-0 NE-10) is back
in action on Thursday when it hosts Colby-Sawyer College for a
non-conference match at 4 p.m. Franklin Pierce (0-1, 0-1 NE-10)
hosts Saint Michael's College next Saturday at 11 a.m.
