White and Martin lead double-winners for Skyhawks

ALBANY, N.Y. (October 2, 2010) – Stonehill College cruised to an 8-1 win over The College of Saint Rose in Northeast-10 Conference women's tennis action at Kelton Courts this afternoon.

Junior Leah White (Walpole, Mass./Bishop Feehan) and freshman Kaitlyn Martin (Medway, Mass./Medway) led the double-winners for Stonehill, leading off by combining for an 8-0 sweep at No. 2 doubles. White then picked up a 6-1, 7-5 decision over Saint Rose senior Missy Leighton (Shokan, N.Y./Onteora) at No. 2 singles, while Martin cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win at fourth singles.

Sophomores Paige Frost (Brigantine, N.Y./Holy Spirit) and Chelsea Haedrich (Islip, N.Y./Islip) were also double-winners for Stonehill, completing the Skyhawks sweep of the three doubles matches with a 4-1 (ret.) decision at No. 3. Frost swept to a 6-0, 6-0 win at third singles, while Haedrich rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 6.

Sophomore Jennifer Crego (West Shokan, N.Y./Onteora) picked up the lone point for Saint Rose with a 1-6, 6-2, 10-3 win over Stonehill senior captain Lindsey Herchel (Hampden, Mass./Minnechaug Regional) at first singles.

Stonehill (3-0, 2-0 NE-10) is right back in action tomorrow afternoon when it closes out its fall schedule with an NE-10 matchup at Le Moyne College at 10 a.m. Saint Rose (2-2, 2-2 NE-10) visits Franklin Pierce University tomorrow at 2 p.m.
