FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (February
18, 2010) - Stonehill College scored seven-straight goals
over the second and third periods to post a key 10-4 victory over
Southern New Hampshire University to clinch its first Northeast-10
points of the year in men ice hockey action at the Foxborough
Sports Center this evening.
Freshman Christopher
Gorovitz (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) sparked the
Stonehill barrage with a hat trick, while junior Angelo
Todesca (Westwood, Mass./Catholic Memorial) added a pair.
Sophomore Matthew Doherty (Milton, Mass./Thayer
Academy) picked up four points with two goals and two
assists. Senior Peter Roundy (Simsbury, Conn./Kimball
Union) and sophomore Andrew Diozzi (Belmont,
Mass./Deerfield) and Patrick Greene (Weymouth,
Mass./Catholic Memorial) each dished three assists on the
night. Roundy extended his personal point streak to eight games
with the assists.
Junior Andrew Webb
(Jaffrey, N.H./Westminster School) and freshman
Dana Borges (Taunton, Mass./Coyle Cassidy)
contributed a goal and assist for the Skyhawks, while freshman
Min Seong Kim (Seoul, South Korea) chipped in with
his first collegiate goal.
Sophomore Matthew Doherty collected four points with two
goals and two assists this afternoon.

Junior Andrew Hildreth
(Leominster, Mass.) led Southern New Hampshire with a goal
and assist. The Penmen also got goals from senior Mark
Lodge (Alfred, Maine), junior Bob Bryant (Nashua,
N.H.) and sophomore Anthony Dercole (Hamden,
Conn.).
Sophomore goaltender Tyler
Jackson (Little Silver, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy)
made 24 saves, including ten in the second period, to preserve the
win for Stonehill. Freshman Mike Mastracci (Pittsburgh,
Pa.) stopped 17 shots over the first 34:42, before giving
way to senior Shane Brooks (Kennebunk, Maine) who
registered 12 saves over the final 25:18.
Stonehill finished with a 39-28
advantage in shots on goal for the contest, with the Skyhawks
converting 4-of-9 power-play chances. Southern New Hampshire
finished 2-for-3 on the power-play, while also netting a
shorthanded tally.
Stonehill scored the final two
goals of the opening period to carry a 3-2 advantage into the first
intermission. Gorovitz put the Skyhawks in front for the first time
with an unassisted tally 17:36 into the first period. Bryant evened
the game at 3-3 for SNHU with his sixth goal of the season on the
power play, assisted by Hildreth and senior Kent Honeyman
(Marietta, Ga.), 2:43 into the second period.
Junior Angelo Todesca netted two goals for the
Skyhawks.

Stonehill took over from there,
scoring the next seven goals over the second and third periods. The
Skyhawks struck twice within a two-minute span on goals from
Todesca and Gorovitz to open a two-goal lead at 8:17. Gorovitz
finished his hat trick with his eighth goal of the season, assisted
by Doherty, at 11:12 to put Stonehill up three.
Stonehill netted three-straight
power-play goals to ice the victory. The Skyhawks struck twice in
the span of 17-seconds in the third period, with power-play goals
from Todesca and Webb at 5:23 and 5:40, respectively. The hosts
closed out their ten goal game with Doherty's fifth of the season
at 9:45, before SNHU closed out the scoring with Hildreth's sixth
of the year 17:24.
Stonehill (9-12-1, 2-6-0 NE-10) is
back in action on Saturday when it visits Franklin Pierce
University at 7 p.m. The Skyhawks final regular season home game of
the season will be next Thursday, February 25, when they host Saint
Anselm College for Senior Night at 7 p.m. Southern New Hampshire
(4-14-3, 2-6-2 NE-10) closes out the regular season on Saturday
when it hosts Assumption College at 4:30 p.m.
