Stonehill Claims NE-10 Win
at Le Moyne, 6-3
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (March 21,
2010) – Stonehill College won its
16th-straight Conference dual match with a 6-3 decision
over Le Moyne College in Northeast-10 men's tennis action at
Henninger Athletic Center today.
Senior Michael Mashkevich
(Goleta, Calif./Framingham (Mass.)) and junior Tim
Fayed (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) led the
double-winners for Stonehill. The duo posted a 9-8 decision at
first doubles, before Fayed claimed a 7-5, 6-0 win at first singles
and Mashkevich was victorious, 6-2, 6-4, at second singles.
Sophomore Aaron Bergeron (Gorham, Maine/Gorham)
also picked up a pair of wins for the Skyhawks, claiming a 10-1 win
at sixth singles after combining with freshman Chris Martin
(Darien, Conn./Darien) for an 8-2 victory at third doubles
as the Skyhawks won two of three doubles matches to get the victory
rolling.
Senior Mike Leone
(Cataumet, Mass./Bourne) also picked up a win for
Stonehill with a 6-3, 6-4 win at third singles to clinch the dual
match victory for the Skyhawks.
Sophomore Andy Gleason
(Gorham, Maine/Cheverus) was the lone double-winner for Le
Moyne. He posted a 6-4, 4-6, 10-1 win at fourth singles after
teaming up with classmate Jim Shelp (Pittsford,
N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland) for an 8-4 victory at second
doubles. Sophomore Joe Persia (Spencerport,
N.Y./Spencerport) also notched a singles win for the
Dolphins with a 6-2, 6-3 decision at fifth singles.
Stonehill (5-4, 2-0 NE-10) is off
until next Saturday when it visits Saint Michael's College at
1 p.m. The Skyhawks next home match is Wednesday, March 31, when
they host Merrimack College at 3:30 p.m. Le Moyne (1-9, 1-3 NE-10)
faces Pace University on Friday in East Hartford, Conn., at 12:30
p.m.
