Stonehill Cruises Past Le
Moyne, 8-1
EASTON, Mass. (March 21,
2010) – Stonehill College, ranked third in the ITA
East Regional rankings, posted its 17th-straight
Conference win with an 8-1 decision over Le Moyne College in
Northeast-10 women's tennis action at Charles Watt Courts
this afternoon.
Sophomore Amy Toegemann
(Narragansett, R.I./The Lincoln School) led the
double-winners for Stonehill as she posted a straight-sets, 6-3,
6-1 win at second singles after combining with junior
Lindsey Herchel (Hampden, Mass./Minnechaug
Regional) for an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles. Freshman
Chelsea Haedrich (Islip, N.Y./Islip) dropped just
one game in earning both singles and doubles wins for the Skyhawks.
She won 6-1, 6-0 at sixth singles after teaming up with classmate
Jaqueline Harrow (North Reading, Mass./North
Reading) for an 8-0 win at third doubles. Freshman
Paige Frost (Brigantine, N.J./Holy Spirit) rounded
out the double-winners with a 6-4, 6-3 win at fifth singles after
her and senior Samantha Dircks (Stony Brook,
N.Y./Ward-Melville) posted a tough 9-8 (7-4) triumph at
first doubles.
Senior Tirzah Walrath
(Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) notched the lone point for Le
Moyne with a 6-4, 6-0 win at first singles after coming out on the
short end of the tight first doubles match with classmate
Allison Cohen (Fayetteville,
N.Y./Jamesville-Dewitt) against Frost and Dircks.
Picking up singles wins for
Stonehill were sophomores Lindsay Simmons (Wethersfield,
Conn./Wethersfield) and Sarah Hickey (Lee,
Mass./Lee) at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively.
Stonehill (8-1, 5-0 NE-10) is back
in action on Tuesday when it visits the College of the Holy Cross
at 3:30 p.m. The Skyhawks return home next Saturday to host Saint
Michael's College at 1 p.m. Le Moyne (2-5, 2-3 NE-10) hosts
American International College on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
