Stonehill Blanks Pace,

BRIARCLIFF, N.Y. (April 10,
2010) – Stonehill College, ranked sixth in the NCAA
Division II East Regional rankings, dropped just one set in
cruising to a 9-0 win over Pace University in Northeast-10
Conference men's tennis action this afternoon.
The best match of the day came at
first singles as Stonehill junior Tim Fayed (Glastonbury,
Conn./Glastonbury), the reigning NE-10 Player of the Year,
rallied from a set down to claim a 5-7, 6-3, 10-7 decision over
Pace sophomore Ignacio Ortiz (Briarcliff, N.Y./La
Colina). Fayed also combined with senior Michael
Mashkevich (Goleta, Calif./Framingham (Mass.)) for an 8-6
win at first doubles. Mashkevich also notched a 6-1, 6-1 straight
sets win at second singles.
Sophomore Jonathan Burke
(Wakefield, R.I./South Kingstown) and freshman
Chris Martin (Darien, Conn./Darien) didn't
drop a set in posting wins at fourth and fifth singles,
respectively. The duo also teamed up for an 8-2 decision at third
doubles.
Stonehill (8-6, 5-2 NE-10) is right
back in action tomorrow when it hosts Adelphi University on Charles
Watt Tennis Courts starting at noon. Pace (4-6, 4-5 NE-10) visits
Bentley University tomorrow at 11 a.m.
