EASTON, Mass. (April 11,
2010) – Stonehill College, ranked sixth in the NCAA
Division II East Regional rankings, coasted to a comfortable 9-0
victory over Southern New Hampshire University in Northeast-10
Conference men's tennis action at Charles Watt Tennis Courts
this afternoon.
Senior Michael Mashkevich
(Goleta, Calif./Framingham (Mass.)) and junior Tim
Fayed (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury), the reigning NE-10
Player of the Year, led the way for Stonehill in its third-straight
win. The seventh-ranked doubles team in the ITA East Regional
rankings, got the match going by claiming an 8-2 win at first
doubles. Fayed, ranked 13th in the region, didn't
drop a single game in posting a straight sets win at first singles,
while Mashkevich cruised to a 6-3, 6-0 victory at second singles to
improve to 9-0 in Conference play this season. He has now won
11-straight NE-10 regular season singles matches dating back to
last season.
Sophomore Aaron Bergeron
(Gorham, Maine/Gorham) also improved to 9-0 in NE-10 play
this season with a 6-1, 6-1 victory while moving up to No. 5
singles. He also combined with freshman Chris Martin
(Darien, Conn./Darien) for an 8-0 sweep at third doubles.
Stonehill (10-6, 7-2 NE-10) is back
on the courts on Thursday when it hosts American International
College at 3:30 p.m. Southern New Hampshire (1-10, 1-8 NE-10) hosts
Saint Michael's College on Thursday at 5 p.m.
