#3 Bentley Sweeps #6 Stonehill, 5-0
Cava and Spycher lead
Falcons as double-winners
FLUSHING, N.Y. (May 6,
2010) – Third-seeded Bentley University swept past
sixth-seeded Stonehill College in opening round action of the 2010
NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Tournament East Regional, bracket #2,
hosted by Queens (N.Y.) College today.
Bentley (17-5, 11-0 NE-10) advances
to tomorrow's East Regional #2 final to face second-seeded and host
Queens (18-2, 3-0 ECC) at 9 a.m. The winner advances to the NCAA
Division II Championships in Altamonte Springs, Fla., May 12-15.
Queens advanced with a 5-1 victory over seventh-seeded Dowling
College in today's opening match. Stonehill, making its
fifth-straight NCAA Tournament appearance and sixth in program
history overall, sees its season come to a close at 13-8 overall,
9-2 in NE-10 play.
Senior Lorenzo Cava (Quito,
Ecuador) and sophomore Alec Spycher (Sarasota,
Fla./Saint Stephens Episcopal) were both double-winners to
lead Bentley into the second round. Cava, the 2010 NE-10 Player of
the Year, posted a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Stonehill junior
Tim
Fayed (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury), the 2009 NE-10
Player of the Year, at first singles. Spycher clinched the Falcons
win with a 6-2, 6-1 decision over Stonehill senior Mike Leone
(Cataumet, Mass./Bourne) at third singles.
Cava also teamed up with sophomore
Victor Suski (West Hartford, Conn./William Hall)
for an 8-6 victory at first doubles, clinching the 3-0 sweep in
doubles play for the Falcons. Spycher and sophomore Zach
Tuckman (Kinnelon, N.J./Morristown Beard School) teamed up
for an 8-4 Falcons win at second doubles.
