Penmen come back from 2-1
deficit after doubles to post match victory
MANCHESTER, N.H. (September
26, 2010) – Southern New Hampshire University
rallied to edge Stonehill College 5-4 in a Northeast-10 Conference
men's tennis matchup this afternoon.
Freshman Juan Arango-Campo
(Armenia Quindio, Columbia) led the double-winners for
Southern New Hampshire as he posted a 6-2, 7-5 victory over
Stonehill senior Tim Fayed (Glastonbury,
Conn./Glastonbury) at No. 1 singles after teaming up with
classmate Alex Mukdaprakorn (Hartford, Conn./Rocky
Hill) for an 8-2 decision at first doubles. Mukdaprakorn
was also a double-winner for the Penmen, registering a 6-0, 6-2 win
at third singles.
SNHU also got singles victories
from sophomore Mitchell Dobek (Westfield, Mass./Saint
Mary) at No. 2 and classmate Tim Hamilton
(Hampton, N.H./Winnacunnet) at No. 6, 6-3, 6-3 over
Stonehill freshman Taylor Whitcomb
(Round Top, N.Y./Cairo-Durham) to clinch the victory. The
Penmen trailed 2-1 following doubles play, but rallied to take four
of the six singles matches and claim its first win over the
Skyhawks in 13 tries.
Junior Aaron
Bergeron (Gorham, Maine/Gorham) was a double-winner
for Stonehill, teaming up for an 8-4 victory at second doubles with
sophomore Chris Martin
(Dairen, Conn./Darien) before picking up a 6-3, 6-1
decision at fifth singles. Freshman Nick Hyzak (Guilford,
Conn./Guilford) earned a 6-3, 6-3 win for the Skyhawks at
fourth singles.
Stonehill (2-1, 1-1 NE-10) is back
in action next Saturday when it hosts Salve Regina University at
Charles Watt Tennis Courts at noon. Southern New Hampshire (2-1,
2-1 NE-10) next travels to Franklin Pierce University on October 11
at 11 a.m.
