Stonehill Tops Clark in Fall Finale, 8-1


Freshman Eric Ringstad was a double-winner for the Skyhawks at No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles.

Skyhawks close out fall season with non-conference win

EASTON, Mass. (October 12, 2011) – Stonehill College, ranked tenth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Regional rankings, closed out its fall season with an 8-1 victory over Clark University in non-conference men's tennis action at Charles Watt Tennis Courts this evening.

Senior Aaron Bergeron (Gorham, Maine/Gorham), junior Chris Martin (Darien, Conn./Darien), sophomore Nick Hyzak (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) and freshmen Eric Ringstad (Fairbanks, Alaska/Monroe Catholic) and Thomas Alaimo (North Andover, Mass./Central Catholic) were all double-winners to lead Stonehill to its fourth win in as many matches this fall.

Bergeron and Martin combined to squeak out a 9-8 (7-2) victory at No. 1 doubles over Clark junior Harris Rollinger (Portland, Maine/Portland) and freshman Zack Goodstein (Redlands, Calif./Redlands) at No. 1 doubles. Martin also cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 win over sophomore Dan Stein (Arlington, Mass./Arlington) at No. 2 singles, while Bergeron rallied for a hard-fought 6-7 (7-2), 7-6 (7-4), 10-5 triumph over freshman Josh Burger (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) at No. 3.

Ringstad topped Goodstein at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-1, while Hyzak picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win over Rollinger at No. 4. The Skyhawks also teamed up for an 8-3 decision over Stein and Spencer Brightman (Lewiston, Maine/Lewiston) at No. 2 doubles. Alaimo blanked freshman Joel Simonson (Arlington, Mass./Arlington) at No. 5 singles.

Junior Dan Paradee (San Salvador, El Salvador) picked up the lone point for Clark with a 3-6, 6-3, 10-7 win over Stonehill sophomore Brett Armstrong (Manville, R.I./Mount Saint Charles Academy) at No. 6 singles.

Stonehill (4-0, 3-0 NE-10) is off until the spring semester, while Clark (0-1, 0-0 NEWMAC) hosts Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts on Friday at 4 p.m.
