Four Skyhawks are double winners in third-straight victory
BRIARCLIFF, N.Y. (October 2, 2011) – Stonehill College, ranked tenth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Regional rankings, posted its third-straight 9-0 victory to open its dual match schedule as result of its win over Pace University in Northeast-10 Conference men's tennis action today.
Senior Aaron Bergeron (Gorham, Maine/Gorham), junior Chris Martin (Darien, Conn./Darien), sophomore Nick Hyzak (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) and freshman Eric Ringstad (Fairbanks, Alaska/Monroe Catholic) were all double winners for Stonehill.
Bergeron and Martin combined for a hard fought 9-8 (7-3) victory at No. 1 doubles over Pace junior Khari Linton (New York, N.Y./Beacon) and sophomore Mike Metesen (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Kent). Bergeron then bounced back for a 4-6, 6-4, 10-8 singles win over Linton at No. 3, while Martin topped freshman Mattia Pastore, 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1 singles.
Ringstad and Hyzak teamed up to post an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles, while Ringstad added a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Metesen at No. 1 singles. Hyzak cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 decision at No. 4 singles.
Stonehill (3-0, 3-0 NE-10) returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts Salve Regina University at Charles Watt Tennis Courts at 4 p.m. Pace (0-2, 0-2 NE-10) hosts Le Moyne College next Saturday at 11 a.m.
