All six Skyhawks double-winners in return to NE-10 play
EASTON, Mass. (March 26, 2011) – Stonehill College, ranked ninth in the most recent ITA East Regional rankings, posted a 9-0 victory over Saint Michael's College in its first Northeast-10 Conference men's tennis matchup of the spring semester.
Senior Tim Fayed (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury), ranked 13th in the ITA East Regional rankings, led the way for Stonehill as all six Skyhawks were double-winners in the match. He posted a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Saint Michael's freshman Nick Bosco (Glastonbury, Conn./East Catholic) at No. 1 singles after teaming up with sophomore Chris Martin (Darien, Conn./Darien) for an 8-4 win at first doubles. Martin posted a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles over sophomore Kenny Vassallo (Wilmington, Mass./Wilmington).
Senior Jonathan Burke (Wakefield, R.I./South Kingstown) notched a 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 2 singles for Stonehill over sophomore Eric Parziale (Pinehurst, N.C./Pinecrest). Burke also combined with freshman Brett Armstrong (Manville, R.I./Mount Saint Charles Academy) for an 8-2 decision at third doubles. Armstrong also cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win at sixth singles.
Junior Aaron Bergeron (Gorham, Maine/Gorham) and freshman Nick Hyzak (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) rounded out the double-winners for the Skyhawks, teaming up for an 8-4 win at second doubles. Bergeron also picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win at fourth singles, while Hyzak won at fifth singles, 6-0, 6-0.
Stonehill (6-4, 2-1 NE-10) is right back in action tomorrow when it hosts New York Institute of Technology for a non-conference dual match at Charles Watt Tennis Courts at 3 p.m. Saint Michael's (1-4, 1-4 NE-10) hosts Southern New Hampshire University for an NE-10 match on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
