NE-10 SEMIFINAL: #1 Southern N.H. Surges Past #5 Stonehill, 5-1

Penmen rally to sweep doubles matches on way to first men's championship appearance

GOFFSTOWN, N.H. (April 21, 2011) – Top-seeded Southern New Hampshire University, ranked sixth in the ITA East Regional rankings, swept all three doubles matches and didn't look back in claiming a 5-1 victory over fifth-seeded Stonehill College, ranked ninth in the region, in semifinal round action of the 2011 Northeast-10 Conference Men's Tennis Championships at the Allard Center this afternoon.

Southern New Hampshire (12-5, 10-1 NE-10) advances to Saturday's championship match for the first time in program history and will host third-seeded and defending champion Bentley University at 3 p.m. Stonehill (13-8, 7-4 NE-10) awaits word on a potential NCAA Tournament bid to be announced on Tuesday.

Freshmen Juan Arango-Campo (Armenia Quindo, Columbia) and Alex Mukdaprakorn (Hartford, Conn./Rocky Hill) were both double-winners to lead Southern New Hampshire to the win. The duo breezed to an 8-1 win at first doubles over Stonehill senior Tim Fayed (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) and freshman Nick Hyzak (Guilford, Conn./Guilford). Arango-Campo also posted a 6-0, 6-1 win over Stonehill senior Jonathan Burke (Wakefield, R.I./South Kingstown) at No. 2 singles, before Mukdaprakorn clinched the win with a 6-2, 6-1 win over sophomore Chris Martin (Darien, Conn./Darien) at No. 3

Junior Aaron Bergeron (Gorham, Maine/Gorham) picked up the lone point of the match for Stonehill with a 6-0, 6-4 win over SNHU sophomore Jared Wright (Norwell, Mass./Norwell) at No. 4 singles.

While Arango-Campo and Mukdaprakorn cruised at the top doubles position, second and third doubles were back-and-forth tight affairs. Wright and sophomore Mitchell Dobek (Westfield, Mass./Saint Mary) rallied for a 9-7 win over Bergeron and Martin at No. 2. Junior John Niland (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire) and sophomore Tim Hamilton (Hampton, N.H./Winnacunnet) edged Burke and freshman Brett Armstrong (Manville, R.I./Mount Saint Charles Academy) at third doubles.
