Skyhawks roll to fifth straight win in comfortable fashion
NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (April 3, 2011) – Stonehill College, ranked ninth in the latest ITA East Regional rankings released this week, cruised to its fifth-straight victory with a 9-0 decision over American International College this afternoon.
For the second straight match, five Stonehill players were double-winners in a 9-0 victory, led by senior Tim Fayed (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury), ranked 12th in the ITA East Regional rankings, who dropped just two games in rolling to a 6-1, 6-1 win over American International sophomore Jakub Simicek (Treneianska Turna, Slovakia) at No. 1 singles. He also combined with freshman Nick Hyzak (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) for an 8-2 decision at first doubles. Hyzak also coasted to a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles.
Senior Jonathan Burke (Wakefield, R.I./South Kingstown) didn't drop a game in posting a 6-0, 6-0 win at second singles, and neither did freshman Brett Armstrong (Manville, R.I./Mount Saint Charles Academy) at No. 5 singles. Burke also combined with freshman Taylor Whitcomb (Round Top, N.Y./Cairo-Durham) for an 8-1 win at third doubles, while Armstrong and junior Aaron Bergeron (Gorham, Maine/Gorham) picked up an 8-1 victory at second doubles. Bergeron also notched a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles.
Stonehill (10-4, 5-1 NE-10) returns to action on Wednesday to host rival Bentley University for a key NE-10 dual match at Charles Watt Tennis Courts at 3 p.m. American International (0-5, 0-4 NE-10) visits Franklin Pierce University on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
