Bentley Tops Stonehill in Key Match, 6-3

Freshman lead Skyhawks despite five match win streak ending

EASTON, Mass. (April 6, 2011) – Bentley University, ranked third in the latest ITA East Regional poll and fifth in the NCAA II East Regional rankings, won each of the top four singles matches to seal a 6-3 victory over Stonehill College, ranked ninth in the ITA East Region rankings, in Northeast-10 Conference men's tennis action at Charles Watt Tennis Courts this afternoon.

Juniors Zach Tuckman (Kinnelon, N.J./Morristown Beard School) and Alec Spycher (Sarasota, Fla./Saint Stephens Episcopal) led the way as double-winners for Bentley, who took a 2-1 advantage after doubles play and won each of the top four singles matches to clinch the victory. Tuckman and Spycher posted an 8-2 victory at second doubles. Tuckman also notched a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles over Stonehill senior Jonathan Burke (Wakefield, R.I./South Kingstown), while Spycher posted a 6-3, 6-3 win over junior Aaron Bergeron (Gorham, Maine/Gorham) at No. 4.

Sophomore Lucas Wever (Sao Paulo, Brazil) picked up a big singles win at No. 1 over Stonehill senior Tim Fayed (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury), ranked 12th regionally, 7-6, 6-3. Classmate Rodrigo Ribeiro (Sao Paulo, Brazil) rounded out the singles winners for the Falcons with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 3.

Freshman Nick Hyzak (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) was a double-winner for Stonehill as its two freshmen combined to play a role in all three points in the match. Hyzak teamed with Fayed to topple Wever and Ribeiro, the region's sixth-ranked doubles team, 8-4, and then posted a 6-4, 6-3 win over Bentley junior Victor Suski (West Hartford, Conn./William Hall) at No. 5 singles. Classmate Brett Armstrong (Manville, R.I./Mount Saint Charles Academy) gutted out a 7-6, 3-6, 11-9 triumph at No. 6 singles for the Skyhawks.

Stonehill (10-5, 5-2 NE-10) returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Pace University at 10 a.m. Bentley (8-7, 8-1 NE-10) travels to Le Moyne College on Sunday for a match at 2 p.m.
