White and Toegemann lead Skyhawks in NE-10 and home opener
EASTON, Mass. (September 25, 2011) – Stonehill College, ranked fourth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional rankings, opened its dual match schedule with a commanding 9-0 victory over Franklin Pierce University in Northeast-10 Conference women's tennis action at Charles Watt Tennis Courts today.
Seniors Leah White (Walpole, Mass./Bishop Feehan) and Amy Toegemann (Narragansett, R.I./The Lincoln School) led the double-winners for Stonehill, starting with an 8-2 triumph at No. 1 doubles. White followed with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Franklin Pierce sophomore Natasha McCarthy (Rindge, N.H./Conant) at No. 1 singles, while Toegemann didn't drop a game in rolling to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Ravens senior Kaitlin Krolikowski (Massapequa, N.Y./St. Anthony's) at No. 2.
Junior Jennifer Denyes (Bradenton, Fla./St. Stephens Episcopal), sophomore Kaitlyn Martin (Medway, Mass./Medway) and freshman Meryl Lawrence (North Scituate, Mass./Mount Saint Charles Academy) also posted a pair of wins each on the afternoon for Stonehill, while freshman Katie Gilligan (Wakefield, R.I./The Prout School) didn't drop a game in winning 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles.
Stonehill (1-0, 1-0 NE-10) is back in action on Thursday when it visits the University of New Haven for an NE-10 dual match at 3:30 p.m. The Skyhawks return home to round out the fall season against Le Moyne College on Sunday, October 16, at 10 a.m. Franklin Pierce (1-2, 1-2 NE-10) visits Bentley University next Sunday, October 2, at noon.
